Five FrightFest Facts From Sean Nichols Lynch Writer & Director of Red Snow

2021 has been a strange year and although things may not have completely returned to normality one thing to be thankful for is the return of the Arrow Video FrightFest which takes place for real this year at Cineworld, Leicester Square in central London.

The annual five-day four-screen 50+ film extravaganza runs between 26th and 30th August and after a year online, it is wonderful to have FrightFest back with a hybrid event featuring in-cinema and online components bringing audiences a whole host of truly terrifying and terrific horror films.

Below we feature one of those monstrously amazing movies with our regular exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From and these five are from Sean Nichols Lynch Writer & Director of Red Snow:

1. Tell us about your film?
Red Snow is the merging of two of my favorite horror sub-genres: vampire horror and Christmas horror! I’ve always yearned for a festive and bloody vampire yarn to watch around the holiday season, so I went out and attempted to make the definitive (only?) Christmas vampire film with the help of many talented co-conspirators.

Red Snow tells the tale of a romance novelist who seems destined to spend the holiday season alone until she has a chance meeting with a real-life vampire. At first it seems like a dream come true, until she quickly finds herself in over her head as more deadly bloodsuckers come into the fold.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Horror chose me! From a very young age I was obsessed with the old Universal monster movies of the 30s and 40s, graduating to darker things like Hammer horror films, the Amicus anthologies, and the slashers of the 80s and 90s. I was fascinated with everything ghoulish and that quickly spun out into writing horror stories and eventually wanting to turn those stories into screenplays and films.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
One of the weirdest and wildest of all Christmas horror films is 1989’s Elves, starring Dan Haggerty as a mall Santa who must hunt down and kill a murderous Nazi elf (just the one murderous Nazi elf, despite the title suggest there are multiple murderous Nazi elves) before it can impregnate a virgin on Christmas Eve.

It is just batshit crazy from start to finish and I would love to see it with an appreciate crowd at FrightFest. If anybody happens to have a 35mm print of this “classic” rotting away in their basement, I implore them to contact Paul McEvoy of FrightFest as soon as possible to arrange a repertory screening.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Most Creative Impalement, because I imagine this would be a very competitive and sought after award.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
Double Creature, starring Dane DeHaan.
