‘Alien: Romulus’ Gets Deluxe Steelbook Release for April 2026
20th Century Studios is expanding the home entertainment life of Alien: Romulus with a limited-edition Steelbook release scheduled for 20 April 2026, offering fans a premium physical edition of one of the franchise’s most commercially successful modern entries. The Steelbook will feature newly commissioned artwork by British poster artist Matt Ferguson and will be available to pre-order through major UK retailers including Amazon, HMV, Zavvi and Rarewaves.

The release arrives as the latest chapter in the long-running Alien series continues to find an audience beyond cinemas. Directed by Fede Álvarez*, the 2024 film marked a return to a more contained survival-horror approach, positioning its story between the events of Alien and Aliens. That timeline placement, combined with a fresh cast and newly designed threats, helped the film stand apart from recent prequels while still maintaining continuity with the original mythology.
Led by Cailee Spaeny, alongside David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu, Alien: Romulus followed a group of young colonists whose scavenging mission aboard a derelict space station goes disastrously wrong. The film was produced by Ridley Scott, whose involvement provided a direct creative link back to the 1979 original.

Commercially, the film proved to be a standout for the franchise. It grossed more than $350 million worldwide, including over $40 million from IMAX screenings, making it the highest-grossing horror title ever released in that format. Its performance overseas was particularly strong, with China emerging as one of its biggest markets. The success has already prompted development on a follow-up, signalling renewed confidence in the brand’s future.
The Steelbook release complements existing 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD editions, all of which include an extensive package of bonus material. Among the extras are behind-the-scenes featurettes detailing the film’s practical sets and creature effects, a breakdown of its zero-gravity finale, and an extended conversation between Álvarez and Scott recorded for the franchise’s 45th anniversary. Alternate and extended scenes are also included, offering insight into the filmmaking process.

For collectors, the Steelbook’s appeal lies in its presentation as much as its content. Limited-run packaging has become a key part of the physical media market, particularly for genre titles with a dedicated fanbase. It’s one to add to your shopping list for 2026.
