‘Alien: Romulus’ SteelBook Brings New Artwork For Alien Day
A return to deep space horror gets a new physical release this month, as Alien: Romulus arrives in a limited-edition SteelBook timed to coincide with Alien Day.

The latest entry in the long-running franchise will be released on 20 April, just days ahead of the annual fan celebration on 26 April. The new edition features artwork by British poster artist Matt Ferguson, who previously created promotional material for the film during its original run.
Directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus follows a group of young colonists who encounter a deadly lifeform while scavenging a derelict space station. The film shifts the focus back towards a contained setting, placing its characters in close quarters with a threat that has defined the series since its beginnings.

The SteelBook release arrives after the film’s strong performance in cinemas, where it became one of the highest-grossing entries in the franchise worldwide. It also continues a period of renewed activity for the series, with Alvarez working alongside producer Ridley Scott to develop a story that connects to earlier instalments while introducing new characters.
The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux and Isabela Merced, with Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu also appearing. The film is based on characters originally created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, whose work launched the franchise in 1979.
Alongside the new packaging, the SteelBook edition includes a range of bonus material. Among the additional features are behind-the-scenes segments exploring the film’s production, including a look at Alvarez’s collaboration with Scott, as well as insight into the construction of practical sets and creatures. A separate feature focuses on the film’s zero-gravity sequence, breaking down the technical work behind the climactic scene.

There is also a recorded discussion between Alvarez and Scott, created as part of the franchise’s 45th anniversary celebrations, along with a selection of alternate and extended scenes.
The SteelBook release will sit alongside existing formats, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD, giving collectors another option tied to the film’s ongoing home entertainment rollout. Pre-orders are currently available through major UK retailers, with the edition positioned as a limited run tied specifically to this year’s Alien Day.
