Hammer Horror Returns with New Documentary and 4K Restoration

On Monday, Hammer Films’ latest documentary, Hammer: Heroes, Legends and Monsters, had its world premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square in London, bringing together horror icons and dedicated fans in celebration of the legendary studio’s 90th anniversary. The premiere offered an exclusive preview of the documentary, which will officially air on Sky Arts this Halloween at 9 pm, promising horror enthusiasts an inside look at the iconic British studio’s storied past and its enduring impact on the genre.

Joining them was the film’s narrator, the acclaimed Charles Dance OBE, whose storied career and commanding voice bring depth to the documentary’s rich history.

Guests were also treated to a remarkable display of Hammer memorabilia curated by Wayne Kinsey, a leading Hammer Films expert. Props on show included Peter Cushing’s Aquascutum coat from The Satanic Rites of Dracula, the hat and spats he wore in Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, and the iconic wooden stake used in Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter. These artefacts, carefully preserved, offered fans a tangible connection to the studio’s golden era.

Produced by Deep Fusion Films in association with Hammer Films, Hammer: Heroes, Legends and Monsters was crafted to honour the legacy of a studio that shaped horror cinema. Narrated by Dance and featuring insights from cinematic visionaries like Tim Burton, John Carpenter, Joe Dante, and John Logan, the documentary captures the unique charm and influence of Hammer Films. The documentary traces Hammer’s evolution from its modest beginnings in London’s Regent Street to becoming a powerhouse in gothic horror. The set, complete with two UHD discs and three Blu-rays, promises to be a must-have for collectors and fans, breathing new life into one of Hammer’s cult classics.
