Evil Takes Root in Haunting Horror Tale ‘Traumatika’

From the creative minds behind Two Witches comes Traumatika, a haunting new horror film that explores the dark intersections of demonic possession and slasher terror. Directed by Pierre Tsigaridis, Traumatika stars Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches) and plunges audiences into the terrifying experiences of Mikey (played by Ranen Navat), a young boy whose life is shattered by his mother’s descent into madness. The film employs multiple first-person point-of-view shots to capture the raw fear and confusion of Mikey’s childhood, turning his night terrors into a gruesome reality that will haunt him—and those around him—for generations.

As Pigeon Shrine FrightFrightFest kicks off this Thursday, Traumatika is set to make its mark on the horror landscape, screening it’s world premiere on Saturday the 24th. The film’s premise is both chilling and thought-provoking: What if the evil we fear most isn’t born but created through trauma? As Mikey witnesses his mother’s terrifying transformation, the question of whether she was always destined to become a monster—or whether the evil inside her was nurtured by unseen forces—haunts the narrative.

Traumatika is a very sensory film that tackles the very primal fears of childhood and the abuse that, sadly, many have experienced in their early lives,” says director Pierre Tsigaridis. “This movie is a nightmarish experience that could maybe raise more questions than it gives answers. As a filmmaker, I wanted to portray the evil that Mikey experiences through his own eyes, making his abuse characterized by the vision of a devilish figure that embodies real-life abusers.”

The film goes beyond typical horror by merging supernatural elements with the visceral impact of a slasher movie, all while exploring the deeper implications of childhood trauma. “Traumatika is not only a chilling horror experience but also an exploration of the lasting impact that trauma can have on a person’s life,” adds executive producer Maxime Rancon. “We hope that this film will resonate with horror fans like us and create thought-provoking conversations about the power of our childhood experiences and the demons that reside within us all.”

Through Mikey’s experiences, Traumatika paints a harrowing picture of how trauma can manifest into a more literal form of evil, blurring the lines between reality and nightmare. The film’s creators have crafted a story that is not only terrifying but also deeply introspective, encouraging viewers to reflect on the demons that linger in their own lives.

With its unsettling imagery and innovative storytelling, Traumatika is tipped to be one of the hottest films as it premieres at FrightFest. The film is expected to join the ranks of other thought-provoking horror titles, making it a must-see for genre fans this festival season.
