Sinister Blu-Ray Rundown

SinisterIt’s finally here. Sinister is out on Blu-Ray and DVD now, and thank Satan for that as we at Love Horror could barely wait any longer!

Taking the honour of one of our Best Films of 2012 we thought that we should bring you a full review of the Blu-Ray and all its features.

Sinister’s story revolves around true crime writer Ellison (Ethan Hawke) who is desperately in need of a best seller to revive his struggling career and moves his family to the scene of his most recent story; the unsolved, gruesome murder of a loving, happy suburban family.Sinister

Shunned by the local community and strained by his obligations to his family, the discovery of a batch of home movies in the attic offers Ellison shocking proof to the crime he is investigating. Ellison notices the same unidentified figure appearing in each of the 8mm films, leaving him convinced that all the incidents have a truly bizarre connection. As his investigations uncover the terrifying truth he starts to lose his grip on reality and it soon becomes clear that he is placing his own family in harm’s way.

Produced by Jason Blum (Insidious; Paranormal Activity 1, 2 and 3) and directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) Sinister stars Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers; Assault on Precinct 13), Vincent D’Onofrio (Chained), James Ransome (Generation Kill; Prom Night) and Fred Dalton Thompson (Law & Order).

Special Features on the release include Director, Scott Derrickson’s commentary, and a writer’s commentary with Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Plus there are some other brilliant stand alone features that tie in perfectly with the film.

In the ‘True Crime Authors’ feature some real life writers talk about the reality behind the character of Ellison in the film. They talk in depth about their experiences researching into murders, including the infamous Black Dahlia.

Following perfectly on from this the feature, ‘Living in a House of Death’ is all about the people who live in the Villisca Axe Murder House – the site of a terrible murders which took place in 1912. In the southwestern Iowa town of Villisca six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned with all eight victims, including six children, suffering severe head wounds from an axe. A lengthy investigation yielded several suspects however the crime remains unsolved.

After the events (as you can guess) it was a hard task to sell or rent the place. The owners even offered the house rent free, yet no one took it up until one brave (or slightly mad) family bought it. Now the place is run as a haunted attraction where people can visit and even stay the night if they dare.

The feature tells the whole story and even captures what some may believe is evidence of an actual ghostly presence. You’ll have to watch it and decide for yourself.

Sinister

Last up (but by no means least) is the ‘Fear Experiment’. It’s a scientific test on the true power of fear in filmic form which sees a group of horror fans hooked up to some advanced machines while watching Sinister. The idea is to test how scared they get which with a film like Sinister is pretty darn scared!

All in all it’s a power house package worth the price alone for such a fine horror film.
