‘Obsession’ Brings the Year’s Biggest Horror Hit to 4K
After turning heads (and stomachs) with one of the year’s biggest horror success stories, Curry Barker‘s Obsession is preparing for its next chapter. The psychological thriller, which enjoyed a record-breaking theatrical run and became one of 2026’s standout genre releases, arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on 7 September, bringing with it a selection of exclusive bonus material exploring the making of the film.

Released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment in partnership with Spirit Entertainment, the home entertainment edition follows the film’s strong critical and audience response in cinemas. Obsession earned an A CinemaScore and secured both Certified Fresh and Verified Hot status on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its reputation as one of the year’s breakout horror titles.
Written, directed and edited by Barker, the film centres on a hopeless romantic who breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow” in an attempt to win over the object of his affection. What initially appears to be the fulfilment of a dream soon spirals into something far more disturbing, as every wish comes attached to an increasingly sinister cost.

Michael Johnston leads the cast alongside Inde Navarrette, with supporting performances from Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Emmy Award nominee Andy Richter. Barker’s feature was executive produced by Jason Blum through the continuing collaboration between Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, while James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri and Roman Viaris served as producers.
The physical release includes an exclusive behind-the-scenes feature titled Obsession Unleashed, offering viewers an extended look at the production through interviews with Barker and the principal cast. The documentary explores how several of the film’s most unsettling sequences were developed, while also featuring footage from Johnston and Navarrette’s chemistry test, which helped shape the emotional dynamic between their characters before filming began.
Fans will also find a feature-length audio commentary from Barker, who discusses the writing, directing and editing process behind the project. Given that he occupied all three creative roles, the track promises an unusually detailed look at how the film evolved from script to screen. It’s often the sort of extra that proves as revealing as the finished feature itself, particularly on productions driven by a single creative voice.

The release continues a remarkable rise for Barker, whose previous online and independent work, including Milk & Serial and That’s a Bad Idea, established him as an emerging talent before Obsession propelled him to a much wider audience.
For physical media lovers, the 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions offer the first opportunity to own the film physically following its theatrical success, complete with exclusive bonus content unavailable in cinemas.
Obsession arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on 7 September 2026 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment in partnership with Spirit Entertainment. Pre-orders are available now through HMV, Amazon, Zavvi and Rarewaves.
