‘Evil Dead’ Gets the Ultimate 4K UHD Release This October
More than a decade after it drenched cinema screens in blood, Evil Dead is returning in its most technically ambitious home entertainment release yet. Fede Álvarez’s brutal reimagining of Sam Raimi’s horror classic is set to make its UK 4K UHD debut this October, with Studiocanal unveiling a lavish Collector’s Edition packed with newly restored visuals, fresh artwork and hours of bonus material.

Arriving on 19 October, the two-disc release marks the first time the 2013 film has been available on 4K UHD in the UK. Alongside a new 4K restoration, fans will receive both the theatrical and unrated versions of the film, presented in a premium Collector’s Edition complete with newly commissioned artwork by illustrator Krishna Bala Shenoi. The package also includes a 64-page booklet and a removable O-ring containing the technical specifications, leaving the slipcase artwork unobstructed.
Directed by Fede Álvarez in his feature debut, Evil Dead introduced a new generation to the franchise while maintaining ties to Sam Raimi’s original 1981 classic. Produced by Raimi alongside Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert, the film shifted the focus to recovering addict Mia, played by Jane Levy, whose attempt to overcome withdrawal in an isolated woodland cabin unleashes an ancient evil after the discovery of the infamous Book of the Dead.

Joining Levy are Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore, as a weekend intended to support Mia’s recovery quickly descends into escalating supernatural violence. Eschewing heavy reliance on digital effects, Álvarez instead embraced practical techniques throughout production, creating many of the film’s gruesome set pieces in-camera.
Released in 2013, Evil Dead proved both a commercial and critical success, earning almost $100 million worldwide from a reported production budget of $17 million. The film also established Álvarez as one of horror’s most closely watched filmmakers, leading to projects including Don’t Breathe and, more recently, Alien: Romulus. Its success helped revive the long-running franchise, paving the way for Ash vs Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rise and this year’s Evil Dead Burn.

The new Collector’s Edition also expands the existing special features with the newly produced retrospective Beyond the Blood: Chris Tilly on Evil Dead (2013). Returning extras include cast and filmmaker commentary featuring Jane Levy, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues, alongside featurettes including Making Life Difficult, Directing the Dead, Being Mia, Evil Dead: The Reboot, Unleashing the Evil Force, interviews with Álvarez, Levy and Bruce Campbell, plus a recorded Q&A from The Ritzy Cinema.
For collectors, the release represents the most comprehensive UK edition of the film to date, combining both cuts with an upgraded presentation and an extensive archive of behind-the-scenes material celebrating one of modern horror’s most uncompromising studio releases.
Evil Dead arrives on 4K UHD Collector’s Edition on 19 October 2026 from Studiocanal and is available to pre-order now.
