As the 25th anniversary of Pigeon Shrine FrightFest approaches, the organisers have unveiled a tantalising lineup for this year’s horror festival, which will be held at the ODEON Leicester Square from 22 August to 26 August 2024. The festival promises an array of chilling films, international premieres, and rare retrospectives.

6:30 PM – Things Will Be Different (UK Premiere) Directed by Michael Felker, this film stars Adam David Thompson, Riley Dandy, Justin Benson, and Sarah Bolger. The plot follows estranged siblings Joseph and Sidney who, after a close-call robbery, hide in an abandoned farmhouse that inexplicably transports them to another time. As they struggle to return to their present, a metaphysical force ensnares them, testing their familial bonds to the limit.

9:15 PM – The Last Podcast (World Premiere) Dean Alioto’s The Last Podcast stars David Foley, Charlie Saxton, Mick Garris, and Gabriel Rush. The story centres on Charlie Bailey, a podcaster who ridicules ghost believers. His scepticism is challenged when he interviews a professor who claims to scientifically debunk the afterlife, only to find himself entangled in a deadly game following a tragic murder.

12:55 PM – From Darkness (UK Premiere) Directed by Philip Da Silva, this Swedish horror film features Oscar Skagerberg, Rakel Benér Gajdusek, Peter Mörlin, and Lars Adsten. The story follows park ranger Angelica and her ex-boyfriend Viktor as they search for a missing woman in a haunted Swedish nature reserve. As they delve deeper, they confront their troubled pasts and the myth of the Cave Banshee, a vengeful spirit from Nordic folklore.

3:30 PM – Mermaid Legend (UK Premiere) Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this rare Japanese cult classic by Toshiharu Ikeda stars Mari Shirato, Kentarô Shimizu, Jun Etô, and Seiji Miyaguchi. The film follows pearl-diver Migiwa, who seeks revenge against yakuza land developers after they murder her fisherman husband. Framed for the crime, Migiwa embarks on a bloody quest for justice.

6:25 PM – A Samurai in Time (European Premiere) Directed by Junichi Yasuda, this Japanese film features Makiya Yamaguchi, Norimasa Fuke, Yuno Sakura, and Rantaro Mine. Set during the Edo period, a samurai is struck by lightning and transported to present-day Kyoto. Mistaken for a film extra, he navigates the modern world of movie production while maintaining his samurai honour.
