Screams By The Sea Adds Second Day, Media Lounge and More for 2027

Bournemouth’s independent horror scene is getting a major upgrade next spring, with Screams By The Sea expanding into a full weekend for the first time and doubling down on films, filmmaker events and opportunities for audiences to get closer to the people making them.

Screams By The Sea

The festival will return to Pavilion Dance South West on 6 and 7 March 2027, turning its next edition into a two-day celebration of independent horror and genre cinema.

The larger format will include six feature screenings, 180 minutes of international short films, live filmmaker Q&As and the return of the festival’s screenwriting pitch, giving writers another opportunity to test their ideas in front of a live audience.

A new media lounge is also being introduced for 2027 in collaboration with Love Horror, which joins the event as media partner. The space will host live interviews, podcasts and networking throughout the weekend, adding another layer to a festival already built around direct interaction between audiences and filmmakers.

There will also be a dedicated horror shopping zone for those looking to take something home beyond a list of new films to track down. Plus, exciting news as far as Love Horror is concerned… We will be official media partner for the event!

“Expanding to a full weekend with the support of Love Horror is a huge milestone for us,” said festival director Radi Nikolov. “We’re bringing double the terror to the coast, more feature premieres, more international talent, and interactive fringe events that bring fans and creators together.”

The festival is also partnering with Community Action Network to create volunteering opportunities for local and younger participants interested in event production and media, extending the event’s connection with Bournemouth beyond the screenings themselves.

Writer and filmmaker Rob Ulitski praised the atmosphere of previous editions, describing Screams By The Sea as “one of the best film festivals I’ve attended” and highlighting the community spirit surrounding the event.

The full 2027 programme and guest line-up will be revealed in January, but the expanded format already gives a clear indication of the festival’s ambitions as it moves into its biggest edition so far.

Limited VIP Festival Passes are currently available for £65, offering weekend-long access, priority entry and additional perks across both days.

Screams By The Sea takes place at Pavilion Dance South West in Bournemouth on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2027. VIP passes are on sale now, with the complete film programme and guest announcements to follow in January.
