The 25th edition of the Pigeon Shrine FrightFest promises to be an unforgettable celebration of horror cinema, taking place between 22 August to 26 August 2024.

It’s hard to comprehend just how many films will be on offer to see at this fantastic event, so we have broken down each of the screens into articles for you to digest. And we may have saved the best (this one) until last!

We have already detailed what will be on offer in Discovery Screen 1, Discovery Screen 2 and Discovery Screen 3 across the long weekend.

Thursday, 22 August 2024

5:30 PM – Opening Film: Broken Bird (World Premiere) Directed by Joanne Mitchell and starring Rebecca Calder, James Fleet, Jay Taylor, and Sacharissa Claxton, this film marks Mitchell’s debut as a director. The story revolves around Sybil Chamberlain, a mortician haunted by a tragic past and descending into a dark and insatiable quest for love.

8:10 PM – Test Screening (World Premiere) Directed by Clark Baker, this sci-fi horror set in 1982 Oregon stars Amy Hargreaves, Rain Spencer, Drew Scheid, and Jeanine Jackson. A test screening of a new Hollywood blockbuster turns into a mind-control experiment with devastating effects on the local community.

10:25 PM – The Invisible Raptor (English Premiere) Mike Hermosa’s film stars Mike Capes, Sean Astin, Sandy Martin, and Chad Bullard. The Tyler Corporation’s creation of a genetically engineered, invisible raptor goes awry, leaving a paleontologist and a security guard to stop the rampaging predator in Spielburgh County.

10:15 AM – An Taibhse (The Ghost) (International Premiere) Directed by John Farrelly and produced by Jim Sheridan, this Irish language horror film stars Tom Kerrisk, Livvy Hill, and Tony Murray. Set in 1852, it follows Éamon and his daughter as they encounter a malevolent force in an isolated mansion during winter.

12:45 PM – Bookworm (European Premiere) Ant Timpson’s film reunites him with Elijah Wood. Also starring Nell Fisher, Michael Smiley, and Morganna O’Reilly, the story follows eleven-year-old Mildred and her estranged father as they embark on a dangerous quest to prove the existence of a mythical beast.

3:15 PM – Ghost Game (International Premiere) Directed by Jill Gervargizian, this horror thriller stars Emily Bennett, Kia Dorsey, Zaen Haidar, and Vienna Maas. A couple partakes in an internet challenge involving breaking into haunted houses, but their latest adventure at Halton House turns deadly.

6:00 PM – Shelby Oaks (UK Premiere) Chris Stuckmann directs this film starring Camille Sullivan, Keith David, Michael Beach, and Sarah Durn. It follows Mia as she searches for her missing sister, Riley, a star of the YouTube channel “Paranormal Paranoids,” uncovering a sinister supernatural force.

11:00 PM – Hauntology (International Premiere) Directed by Parker Brennon and featuring Nancy Loomis, Samantha Robinson, Naomi Grossman, and Zoey Luna, this anthology explores ghost stories and queer perspectives across various Ohio locations.

10:15 AM – Survive (UK Premiere) Directed by Frederic Jardin, this French post-apocalyptic thriller stars Emilie Dequenne, Andreas Pietschmann, Lisa Delmar, and Lucas Ebel. A family awakens in a desert world after a storm, facing threats from crazed humanity and creatures from the abyss.

12:35 PM – The Last Voyage of the Demeter (UK Premiere) André Øvredal’s film stars Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, and David Dastmalchian. Based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” it follows the doomed crew of the Russian schooner Demeter transporting mysterious crates to London.

3:25 PM – Dead Mail (International Premiere) Directed by Joe de Boer and Kyle McConaghy, this thriller stars Sterling Macer Jr., John Fleck, Tomas Boykin, and Micki Jackson. A “dead letter” investigator uncovers a terrifying mystery involving a desperate plea for help and a menacing figure.

6:15 PM – Traumatika (World Premiere) Pierre Tsigaridis directs this horror film starring Rebekah Kennedy, Ramen Navet, Emily Goss, and Susan Gayle Watts. Little Mikey’s night terrors become reality as his mother shows signs of demonic possession, unleashing horrors that span generations.

8:30 PM – Strange Darling (European Premiere) Directed by JT Mollner and starring Willa Fitzgerald, Ed Begley Jr., Robert Craighead, and Kyle Gallner, this thriller unfolds the twisted love life of a serial killer through a non-linear narrative, blending suspense and intrigue.

11:00 PM – Members Club (World Premiere) Marc Coleman’s film stars Dean Kilbey, Perry Benson, Steve Oram, and Peter Andre. A middle-aged male stripper group takes a mysterious gig in rural Essex, leading to a dark plot involving a murderous 16th-century witch.

10:30 AM – The Last Ashes (UK Premiere) Directed by Loïc Tanson and starring Sophie Mousel, Timo Wagner, Jules Werner, and Luc Schiltz, this Luxembourg film is set in 1838 and follows Hélène’s quest for revenge against the Graff family amidst war, famine, and disease.

1:20 PM – The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee (World Premiere) Jon Spira’s documentary, featuring Peter Serafinowicz, Harriet Walter, Peter Jackson, and Joe Dante, explores the life of Christopher Lee through interviews, archival footage, and animation, revealing lesser-known aspects of the actor’s life and career.

4:00 PM – Azrael: Angel of Death (UK Premiere) Directed by E.L. Katz, this film stars Samara Weaving, Vic Carmen Sonne, Katariina Unt, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. It follows Azrael’s escape from a cult and her fight for survival against ancient evil.

6:15 PM – Saint Clare (UK Premiere) Mitzi Peirone directs this thriller starring Bella Thorne, Rebecca De Mornay, Ryan Phillippe, and Frank Whaley. It centres on Clare Bleecker, a Catholic school student with dissociative identity disorder who is also a serial killer. Paired with Bella Thorne’s short film Unsettled.

9:00 PM – Invader (International Premiere) Directed by Mickey Keating and produced by Joe Swanberg, this true crime horror stars Vero Maynez, Colin Huerta, and Ruby Vallejo. A woman’s search for her missing cousin reveals a nightmare beyond her worst fears.

10:30 AM – The Dead Thing (International Premiere) Elric Kane’s modern take on ‘The Invisible Man’ stars Blu Hunt, Ben Smith-Petersen, John Karna, and Katherine Hughes. A woman’s online dating experiences lead to a twisted and dangerous obsession.

1:00 PM – A Desert (European Premiere) Joshua Erkman’s feature debut stars David Yow, Kai Lennox, Sarah Lind, and Zacary Ray Sherman. The film follows photographer Alex on a road trip that turns nightmarish when he encounters a dangerous couple.

3:30 PM – Ladybug (World Premiere) Tim Cruz’s horror film stars Anthony Del Negro, Zachary Roozen, Scout Taylor-Compton, and Charlene Tilton. Artist Grayson’s retreat to a remote cabin is disrupted by a haunted handyman seeking justice for his murder.

6:10 PM – Cold Wallet (European Premiere) Cutter Hodierne directs this heist film starring Raul Castillo, Josh Brener, Melonie Diaz, and Tony Cavalero. A group of Redditors attempts to steal from a supposedly deceased crypto CEO, leading to a high-stakes digital heist.

8:30 PM – Closing Film: The Substance (English Premiere) Coralie Fargeat’s film stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, and Hugo Diego Garcia. A fading celebrity uses a cell-replicating drug to create a younger version of herself, leading to unexpected consequences.
