Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge (2022) Review

Scare Package II would make a fantastic drinking game. Every time you recognise a horror trope, take a shot. On second thoughts, you might be comatose by the end of the first act.
Having not seen the first Scare Package, I was a little concerned I would be too out of the loop to properly appreciate it, but I needn’t have worried. Though we are introduced to characters from the first and there is presumably an element of continuation, the nature of the film means that it is made to be enjoyed as is.
Acting almost as an anthology in a way, the feature includes different segments for directors such as Aaron B Koontz, Alexandra Barreto, Anthony Cousins, Jed Shepherd, and Rachele Wiggins.
Opening at the funeral of Rad Chad Buckley himself, we soon find he isn’t done with us yet, as the attendees find themselves subjected to a number of Saw-esque traps and challenges.
From the Final Girls who find that all bets are off and they may not be as safe as they assumed to the Stand by Me/Reanimator/The Fly mash up, the references fly as thick and fast as the blood and gore.
Scare Package is painfully aware of how silly and over the top it is, something that it leans into heavily. Whilst the smaller budget is clear, its almost played for laughs as the ridiculous FX is utilised to the max with some gruesome over the top kills.

Scare Package is definitely not going to have wide appeal, but behind the blood and guts you can find the heart as this is something that is truly made for us genre fans.
