New Rage in Town as ’28 Years Later’ Hits Digital
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have reunited for 28 Years Later, the long-awaited new chapter in the rage virus saga, which is now available to rent or buy on digital platforms through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Nearly three decades after the events of 28 Days Later, the latest instalment in the franchise revisits a world still reeling from the outbreak that devastated Britain. This time, the story centres on a secluded island community that has carved out a fragile existence behind makeshift defences. When one resident ventures back to the mainland, he uncovers disturbing new threats among both the infected and the survivors who remain.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer, and marks the return of Boyle to the director’s chair with Garland once again handling the screenplay. Together, they expand on the virus mythology first introduced in 2002, exploring how time and trauma have reshaped the post-apocalyptic world.

28 Years Later had its digital release shortly after select festival previews and marks a continuation of the creative partnership that first launched the franchise over two decades ago. Boyle and Garland are joined by producers Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice and Bernie Bellew.
Shot in a mix of stark urban landscapes and bleak countryside, the film reintroduces the high-intensity tone and moral uncertainty that characterised its predecessors. While previous entries focused on the immediate aftermath of the outbreak, this third film interrogates the long-term effects of prolonged isolation, authoritarian control and psychological fallout in a society still cut off from the wider world.
Available now via major digital retailers, 28 Years Later’s release allows fans and newcomers alike to revisit this terrifying post-pandemic world shaped by infection, fear and survival.
