Celebrity Heroes Hijack the Skies in ‘Zombie Plane’

Production has officially wrapped on Zombie Plane, the outlandish action-comedy that assembles an unlikely squad of celebrity heroes at 30,000 feet. The film’s star list reads like a roll call of pop culture icons, with Vanilla Ice, Sophie Monk, Chuck Norris, Ice-T, Sir Bob Geldof and Brian Austin Green among those confirmed to lead the charge against the undead. Scenes shot on Australia’s Gold Coast saw Ice-T share the frame with homegrown talent Stephen Curry and a surprise cameo from broadcaster Kyle Sandilands.

Under the direction of Radioactive Pictures and U.S. partner Entertainment Squad, Zombie Plane sends its high-flying team to do battle with a deadly outbreak that threatens to bring down civilisation. By day they fulfil the public roles for which they are known; by night they don combat gear and board a hijacked airliner to protect the world from an under-the-radar plague. Chuck Norris leads the mission as Commander, setting the tone for a comedy packed with fist-pumping heroics and razor-sharp one-liners.

Musical flourishes come courtesy of the cast themselves, as the soundtrack features original tracks produced by Vanilla Ice and Ice-T alongside contributions from other musically minded stars. The blend of action, horror and off-beat humour has drawn on the genre savvy of producer Shaked Berenson, whose Entertainment Squad banner has backed recent horror-comedy hits such as Slaxx and Summoning Sylvia. “As a genre, horror has always been a powerful way to blend social commentary with outrageous entertainment,” Berenson said. “Zombie Plane carries that torch with its absurd premise and sharp satire. We embrace the weird, the wild and the unexpected.”

The collaboration represents a first between Radioactive Pictures and Entertainment Squad, bringing together Australian production expertise under Jessica Butland’s leadership and Berenson’s horror-comedy pedigree. Radioactive’s previous credits include the family drama Ruby’s Choice, the local horror The Red, the UK sci-fi title Around the Sun and John Soto’s thriller Avarice. Jess Butland celebrated the wrap with enthusiasm: “I am excited to see this high-octane thrill ride of laughs and action come to life, and I know the audience will be just as excited.”

Distribution plans are now in motion, with Radioactive Pictures handling the Australian theatrical rollout and Entertainment Squad leading the U.S. campaign. Release dates will be announced in the coming weeks, aiming for a late-year launch designed to capture both horror devotees and fans of gleefully absurd blockbusters.
