Women in Horror and Zombie Legends on NYX UK this February

February is shaping up to be an exciting month for horror fans as NYX UK unveils a packed lineup celebrating the genre’s most influential creators and iconic creatures. Women in Horror Week (10–16 February) will spotlight the extraordinary contributions of female filmmakers, while Zombie Week (3–9 February) takes viewers on a chilling journey through the legacy of the living dead. These programmes highlight NYX UK’s commitment to delivering expertly curated horror content that captivates and terrifies in equal measure.

Women in Horror Week: A Tribute to Trailblazers

Kicking off on 10 February, Women in Horror Week showcases films directed by some of the genre’s most innovative female voices. Axelle Carolyn opens the event with Soulmate (2013), a gothic tale of grief and the supernatural. On 11 February, Marina de Van’s psychological horror Dark Touch (2013) explores trauma with supernatural undertones, creating a deeply unsettling experience.

Ida Lupino’s groundbreaking noir classic The Hitch-Hiker (1953) screens on 12 February, demonstrating her legacy as a pioneer in the male-dominated genre. On 13 February, the Soska Sisters bring a modern feminist lens to body horror with their 2019 remake of Rabid, a contemporary reimagining of David Cronenberg’s original. The week continues with Deathcember (2019), an anthology of holiday horrors featuring segments by several female directors, and concludes with Amy Holden Jones’ The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) and the 2010 remake of I Spit on Your Grave, sparking discussions on empowerment and justice.

Zombie Week: Celebrating Undead Icons

Zombie Week begins on 3 February with Lucio Fulci’s Zombie (1979), setting the tone for a week of undead terror. George A. Romero’s legacy is honoured on 4 February with a double bill of The Crazies (1973) and Night of the Living Dead (1968), the latter being the film that redefined the zombie genre.

The Templar Knights rise in Amando de Ossorio’s Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972) and its sequel Return of the Evil Dead (1973), screening on 5 and 6 February. The Blind Dead saga concludes with Night of the Seagulls (1975) on 7 February, followed by Umberto Lenzi’s Nightmare City (1980) and Fulci’s The House by the Cemetery (1981), which wrap up the week with a celebration of European zombie horror.

Dark Rewind Premieres Sleepaway Camp

On 25 February, NYX UK premieres Dark Rewind, a nostalgic TV series hosted by August Kyss. Each episode revisits 1980s horror classics, beginning with Sleepaway Camp (1983). Known for its shocking ending, the film’s low-budget charm and inventive kills have made it a cornerstone of the slasher genre.
