Danielle Deadwyler Faces Terror in ‘The Woman in the Yard’
Something sinister this way comes. On March 28, 2025, Blumhouse returns with The Woman in the Yard, a chilling tale of grief, resilience, and the unknown. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Black Adam), the film stars BAFTA and SAG nominee Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall) as Ramona, a woman whose life spirals into terror after a spectral figure invades her family’s rural farmhouse.

Set against the eerie isolation of a countryside home, the story unfolds with a simple yet ominous premise: a lone woman dressed in black appears uninvited on the family’s front lawn, declaring, “Today’s the day.” What begins as an unsettling encounter soon escalates into a nightmare as the figure refuses to leave and her menacing presence inches closer to the family.
Ramona, still grappling with the loss of her husband (Russell Hornsby; Fences, BMF) in a car accident, is left to protect her two children—14-year-old Caleb (Peyton Jackson; Respect) and six-year-old Nia (Estella Kahiha; Will Trent)—while enduring her own physical and emotional injuries. But as the mysterious woman’s intentions become clear, it’s evident this is no ordinary intruder. Portrayed by Okwui Okpokwasili (The Exorcist: Believer), the enigmatic figure is both captivating and terrifying, bringing a sense of otherworldly dread to the screen.

Written by first-time screenwriter Sam Stefanak, The Woman in the Yard delves into themes of grief, motherhood, and the resilience required to face insurmountable odds. Collet-Serra’s direction, paired with the atmospheric rural setting, intensifies the suspense, creating a relentless sense of unease that is likely to linger long after the you have left the cinema.
Produced by Jason Blum (The Black Phone, The Invisible Man) and Stephanie Allain (Hustle & Flow, The Exorcist: Believer), the film promises to deliver the high-calibre thrills that have become synonymous with Blumhouse productions. With Danielle Deadwyler also serving as an executive producer, the project has attracted significant buzz as a must-see entry in the horror genre for 2025.
