‘The Cull’ Reveals First Trailer Ahead of FrightFest World Premiere

A man released from prison for a murder he insists he did not commit returns to the place where everything went wrong in The Cull, a new British independent horror film shot in Cornwall that will receive its world premiere at Tubi FrightFest Halloween on 30 October.

The Cull

Written and directed by J.P. Davidson, the feature stars Craig Russell as Niall, who has spent years behind bars for the murder of his mother. Newly released, having found religion and turned away from a past marked by violence and addiction, he retreats to a remote woodland cabin in search of answers and some form of redemption.

What he finds instead is a hostile local community, a powerful family with secrets of its own and an atmosphere that grows increasingly threatening the deeper he investigates his mother’s death.

As violence begins to erupt and Niall is plagued by disturbing visions, the mystery widens into something far older and more dangerous. Witchcraft, blood sacrifice and forbidden ritual all begin to surface, suggesting that his return to the area may have been anticipated long before he left prison.

Russell, whose recent credits include Protein and Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra, leads a cast that also includes Ollie McFarlane, Tim Cartwright, Sarah White, Kate Edney, Sally Geake, Richard Hainsworth and Rory Wilton.

The film was produced by Cornwall-based producer Catherine Laine, with Fintan Finnan and Amy Davidson serving as associate producers. The production also drew on local talent, giving the project a strong regional connection both in front of and behind the camera. Davidson previously directed The Last House and has also worked across documentary, television and post-production.

The world premiere will be accompanied by a sizeable team from the production, with Davidson and Laine attending alongside cast members Ollie McFarlane, Rory Wilton, Richard Hainsworth, Sally Geake and Sarah White.

A first trailer is available now (below), offering an early look at the film ahead of its festival debut.

The Cull will receive its world premiere at Tubi FrightFest Halloween at ODEON Luxe West End at 20:30 on Friday 30 October 2026. For more information and tickets, visit: frightfest.co.uk/Halloween2026/Tickets.html
