Top 5 Horror Movie Vampire Hunters

Vampires and vampire hunters go hand in hand like a stake and a beating heart, or a neck and some tooth marks.
Over the years cinema has celebrated Dracula in many forms, but what of Van Helsing and the other bat hunting bad asses who take down the vamps with garlic and a witty one liner?

To celebrate the release of the gruesomely brilliant Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on DVD and Blu-ray, we’ve taken a look at the all-time Top 5 Horror Movie Vampire Hunters.

1. Abraham Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
An absolutely killer performance from up-and-coming star, Benjamin Walker, (Flags of Our Fathers) as the 16th President of the United States puts Abraham Lincoln firmly at the top of our list. Spurred on by his desire to avenge the gruesome death of his mother, this white-knuckle adventure follows Lincoln as he risks his presidency, his family and his life to protect America from an uprising of blood-thirsty vampires.

2. Van Helsing, Van Helsing
Paying homage to all the classic monster stories, including Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Van Helsing tells the tale of a notorious monster hunter who is sent to Transylvania to prevent Count Dracula’s sinister use of Dr. Frankenstein’s research. Played by action hero Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Real Steel), Van Helsing oozes kick-ass vampire hunter charisma.

3. Blade, Blade
Based on the Marvel Comics character, Wesley Snipes (Demolition Man) plays Blade, a half-vampire, half-mortal being who becomes protector of the mortal race by slaying evil vampires.

4. Lucian, Underworld
The incredibly talented Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) plays Lucian, a Lycan (or werewolf) who leads his army of followers in battle agaisnt a band of their vampire enemies. Starring alongside action-horror regular Kate Beckinsale (Van Helsing) Sheen exemplifies killer instinct at its blood-curdling best!

5. Dr Jeffrey Rosenberg/Van Helsing, Love at First Bite
This 1979 comedy horror sees Richard Benjamin (Catch-22) play the bumbling Doctor Jeff Rosenberg as he attempts to to convince police Lt Ferguson that Dracula is attempting to woo his girlfriend. The ultimate vampire spoof, Benjamin’s Rosenberg hilariously stumbles his way into defeating the terrifying undead.
