Below writer, producer and director Alejandro Cohen Arazi talks about his favorite horror film:
“It’s hard for me to pick just one movie as a favourite, the concept of horror is very wide. But considering what we usually expect for a horror movie, I remember In the mouth of madness.
I have seen the movie for the first time after a time of fanaticism with H. P. Lovecraft, a writer that opened a world to my imagination. The concept of fear in Lovecraft work it’s very sensitive and unique, and it has its power in the words, in literature. And In the mouth of madness I think that seemingly only-in-literature-value is very well adapted to cinema, and I find that fascinating.
Also, I enjoyed the reference to the best selling horror writer like Stephen King and the financial interest of the publishing business that works as a kickstart of the story. That’s a root in social reality in the movie, something that John Carpenter uses a lot in his work that I also like.
And of course, Carpenter is a great filmmaker, regardless my thoughts about the movie. In the mouth of madness is scary as hell, I like rewatch it once in a while.”
