Five FrightFest Facts From Pablo Parés director of Pussycake

The fantastic FrightFest returns to London for another year, bringing with it a gigantic horde of horror films playing across the August bank holiday weekend in Cineworld Leicester Square and the wonderful Prince Charles Cinema.

And if the brilliant blood filled horror festival is back so too are Love Horror’s Five FrightFest Facts, our exclusive series of interviews with the stars and creatives behind the horror that has been running since 2016.

Below we speak to Pablo Parés director of PUSSYCAKE which receives its UK PREMIERE in 101 FILMS DISCOVERY SCREEN ONE on the 26th AUGUST at 3.30 PM

1. Tell us about your film?

PussyCake is an independent horror and sci-fi feature made in Argen-tina by a team of movie fans who have been doing this kind of stuff for many years. The film was absolutely self-financed, as we love to keep creative control.

It is a very entertaining movie, with pretty girls, monsters, a lot of blood, screams and a lot of personality.

SPANISH VERSION: PussyCake es una película independiente de ter-ror y sci-fi realizada en Argentina por un equipo de fanáticos del cine que venimos haciendo este tipo de películas desde hace muchos años. La película fue absolutamente autofinanciada, ya que nos en-canta mantener el control creativo. Es una película muy entretenida, con chicas lindas, monstruos, mucha sangre, gritos y mucha personalidad.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?

My childhood was with an older brother who was an artist and a lov-er of comics. He brought me into the world of art. For years I made comics, radio soap operas, plays, animations and much more. When the VHS cameras arrived at the end of the 80s, I began to make short films together with my friends, very influenced by Peter Jackson’s movie BAD TASTE and the cinema of the 80s.

SPANISH VERSION: Mi infancia fue junto a un hermano mayor dibu-jante y amante de los comics. Él me trajo al mundo del arte. Durante años realize historietas, radionovelas, obras de teatro, animaciones y mucho más. Cuando a fines de los 80s llegan las cámaras de VHS, comence a hacer cortometrajes junto con mis amigos, muy influidos por la pelicula BAD TASTE de Peter Jackson y el cine de los años 80s.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?

Japanese filmmaker Yoshihiro Nishimura, director of TOKYO GORE POLICE, is a unique artist who really knows how to entertain and his films deserve much more exposure. He makes a type of cinema that can no longer get financing and it would be a great loss if he stopped making films. I haven’t been able to see his last film HOLY MOTHER yet, but the trailer looks very interesting.

SPANISH VERSION: El realizador japones Yoshihiro Nishimura, direc-tor de TOKYO GORE POLICE, es un artista unico que realmente sabe como entretener y sus películas merecen mucha más difusion. Él hace un tipo de cine que ya no logra conseguir financiación y sería una gran perdida que deje de hacer películas. Todavía no pude ver su ultimo film HOLY MOTHER, pero el trailer parece muy interesante.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?

I would love for you to reward the “Best Guilty Pleasure”. Those films that we love, but that the jury does not dare to award.

SPANISH VERSION: Me encantaría que premien al “Mejor gusto cul-poso”. Esas películas que amamos, pero que los jurados no se ani-man a premiar.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?

The title could be “Movies Are Forever” and I would love for it to be played by a young Kevin Bacon, with a young Bruce Campbell co-starring.

SPANISH VERSION: El título podría ser “Las películas son para siem-pre” y me encantaría que esté interpretada por un joven Kevin Ba-con, con un joven Bruce Campbell como co-protagonista.
