Five FrightFest Facts From Francesco Erba director of As in Heaven, so on Earth

2021 has been a strange year and although things may not have completely returned to normality one thing to be thankful for is the return of the Arrow Video FrightFest which takes place for real this year at Cineworld, Leicester Square in central London.
The annual five-day four-screen 50+ film extravaganza runs between 26th and 30th August and after a year online, it is wonderful to have FrightFest back with a hybrid event featuring in-cinema and online components bringing audiences a whole host of truly terrifying and terrific horror films.

Below we feature one of those monstrously amazing movies with our regular exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From and these five are from Francesco Erba director of As in Heaven, so on Earth:

1. Tell us about your film?
”As in heaven, so on earth” is my first feature film. Despite that producing it was a nightmare, I believe that it represents me the most as a filmmaker: it gathers all my passions about movie-making. It’s the result after five years of work for me and a few other colleagues and artists that contributed to this project. It’s a “hybrid” movie: it fuses live action and animation in a bizarre mockumentary.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
I grew up watching horror and genre movies, so I guess it comes naturally..! I’m a huge fan of Carpenter and Cronenberg, two directors with very different approaches towards horror movies but equally efficient for telling about our society and human kind. I see this very powerful weapon in horror genre.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
I would’ve loved to see my favorite film of my teenage years “The Thing” screened along with other crazy fans like me, mostly at a Frightfest festival. And two of the upcoming films I’m eager to see are “The Green Knight” and “Antlers”, hopefully they’ll stop postponing them.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
I would create the award for the “Best result with the less amount of money”, because I think that me and my colleagues are very good at it…!

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
I would call it “That strange guy that came from a small town in the italian mountains” (I have a problem with long titles…) and I believe that a young Mads Mikkelsen or Michael Wincott will fit the role perfectly.
