Five FrightFest Facts From Marc Price the writer and director of Dune Drifter

Everyone can agree that 2020 has been a challenging year. Apart from all living in a real pandemic horror movie there have been lockdowns, lay offs, panic buying and more and we don’t seem to be done with it yet. However FrightFest have done their best to make 2020 better by bringing us TWO Frightfests packed full of fantastic fear filled films.

Arrow Video FrightFest will go virtual for the second time in 2020, having taken the decision to cancel its planned physical event at the Cineworld, Leicester Square, due to continuing COVID restrictions. The forty-five feature film line-up will merge the in-cinema selection with brand new titles to provide an online festival experience from Oct 21-Oct 25.

Below we feature one of those amazing movies with our regular exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From and these five are from Marc Price the writer and director of Dune Drifter

1. Tell us about your film?
Dune Drifter is about a pilot and gunner marooned on a desolate planet after surviving a devastating space battle. I love the old Roger Corman sci-fi adventures from the early 80s. I grew up loving that cobbled-together, kit-bashed aesthetic. So this was a lovely opportunity to lean into something similar but with a modern take on action and tension in a sci-fi setting. I also really wanted to work with miniatures! All the fun stuff!

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
I can’t think of another genre with as many rich sub-genres as horror. Ghost stories, vampire movies, zombies, found footage, melodrama, comedy. You could spend a lifetime mashing those sub genres together and find unique stories each and every time. You can’t lose. Even a bad horror movie will have something interesting for me. So, when it comes to genre films I think horror has my heart. Even when I’m making a sci-fi action movie, because the horror vibe is where I go to build tension.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
I’d love to watch Dreamscape! Remember that? Where Dennis Quaid infiltrated the president’s dream to save him from an assassination? Real fun stuff and a little under appreciated. That said, I also LOVE showing Chuck Russell’s The Blob to people who haven’t seen it. The reactions are always consistently potent and I’d love to be in a packed theatre with an audience who are into it. Maybe next year!

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
“The Marc Price and Arri Alexa award for Most Awesomest Movie Ever”. Alexa would, of course, sponsor the award and give us free cameras and lenses.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
The Missed (The Mist)… it would be about my desperate attempt to catch a train and, well… wouldn’t want to spoil it. God that wasn’t funny. That’s what happens when I try! I’d get the REAL Marc Price from Trick or Treat to play me. It would be make for some confusing credits!
