We may be in the middle of a period in history straight out of a horror film but the pandemic has not stopped FrightFest which is back in 2020 in a new online form and bringing the best new horror from across the globe to stream exclusively into your homes. Our exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From… is also back quizzing the talent behind the terror and giving you an added insight. 1. Tell us about your film?
I would describe the film as a female driven revenge thriller that blends with the supernatural werewolf genre.

The film tells the tale of Lisa, who is running her late grandmother’s bookstore. She finds herself at odds with a group of girls in the town and soon falls victim to an assault led by the town’s local sheriff. Left for dead, she is bitten by a wolf and begins experiencing changes and a hunger for revenge.

The film was shot entirely in the Kansas City, Missouri area in the summer of 2019.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Haha. Basically, I grew up in the 1980s/90s in a small-town in Nebraska. I was always told not to watch horror films by my parents, but of course I found ways to see them anyway. Whether it be watching them on HBO, Cinemax, USA Network or renting them from the local video stores. Since they were considered the forbidden fruit, horror instantly became my favorite genre.

I bought my first issue of Sangria when I was 11 years old and I was hooked. It wasn’t until I attended the University of Kansas that I started actively making short horror films and eventually my first horror feature in the Lawrence, Kansas area.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
AInteresting question. A classic or one that is currently on the schedule? I would say if it was a classic film, I’d love to see Christine screened at FrightFest in 4K. I’ve always loved that film and I think since it’s also a revenge film, it kinda of connects with “I Am Lisa”.

As far as new films screening this year, I’m would be very interested in seeing Sky Sharks and Blind. Both look super entertaining.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
I think a good award would be Best Ensemble. I think the collection of actors we put together for “I Am Lisa” was amazing. I loved working with everyone of them.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
LOL! I would call it “The Kansas City Filmmaker Horror”. It would tell the story of an indie filmmaker who is trying to make a living and find funds for projects in the Midwest while also raising his two daughters. Just to make it more interesting, we’ll make the two daughters be vampires. Charlie Day would have to play me for sure.
