Double Talk from the cast and crew of Double Date – Matt Wilkinson

Back at FrightFest 2017 Double Date was one of our favourite films of the fest and now the generally public get to see why, but not before we quiz the films cast and crew!

After its much lauded theatrical release and fantastic reception on its Fright Fest premiere, the bloody hilarious comedy-horror Double Date – written by and starring Screen International/FrightFest Genre Rising Star 2017 award winner Danny Morgan – is set to arrive on digital, DVD and Blu-ray from Sparky Pictures.

Self-assured, and irritatingly cocksure, one thing Alex (Michael Socha – This is England, Chernobyl) can boast about is his loyalty to his dearest friend, Jim (Danny Morgan – On The Road). As Jim’s 30th birthday approaches, Alex promises to help get his best friend laid, so he won’t reach this unwelcome milestone a virgin. They muster up the courage to arrange a double date with sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham – Dracula: The Dark Prince) and Lulu (Georgia Groome – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), but little do the boys know, their partners have other plans for the night ahead…

Below we grill producer Matt Wilkinson with some daring and dubious questions in our special interview Double Talk:

1.How did you get into making movies?
I was originally a screenwriter who wasn’t good enough to have a writing career, but knew enough about scripts to know what was a commercial, make-able idea. I worked with several high end film-related companies, and learnt from the inside-out, how things happen, at a certain point felt that I was ready do it for myself.

2. What was the best bit of making Double Date?
The team. It was such a young, lovely enthusiastic team of creatives and technical filmmakers. For a lot of people it was their first feature film, so they had a lot to prove, but also worked really hard in doing that. There was a real ‘for the love of the project’ vibe on set, and many friendships and professional relationships remain. It’s not always that rewarding or enjoyable.

3. What has been your most dreadful dating experience?
I once took a blind date to a gig and seriously misjudged her musical tastes. It was a short evening.

4. What is your favourite horror film and why?
I always tell people Amityville 2: The Possession. It’s partly so I’m not the guy who says Psycho or The Exorcist, but I do think it’s a really under-rated horror from a psychology point of view. It’s about a family member driven mad enough to kill his own family. It’s all set in one location and there’s no escape. It’s like a home invasion movie where the perpetrator is your own brother.

5. Who would be the worst horror character to go on a double date with?
Erm. Freddie. All those bad jokes? Though Jason and Michael Myers aren’t really know for they dinner chat.

Double Date is out on Blu-ray, DVD and digital from 9 September.
