Double Talk from the cast and crew of Double Date – Ben Barfoot

Back at FrightFest 2017 Double Date was one of our favourite films of the fest and now the generally public get to see why, but not before we quiz the films cast and crew!

After its much lauded theatrical release and fantastic reception on its Fright Fest premiere, the bloody hilarious comedy-horror Double Date – written by and starring Screen International/FrightFest Genre Rising Star 2017 award winner Danny Morgan – is set to arrive on digital, DVD and Blu-ray from Sparky Pictures.

Self-assured, and irritatingly cocksure, one thing Alex (Michael Socha – This is England, Chernobyl) can boast about is his loyalty to his dearest friend, Jim (Danny Morgan – On The Road). As Jim’s 30th birthday approaches, Alex promises to help get his best friend laid, so he won’t reach this unwelcome milestone a virgin. They muster up the courage to arrange a double date with sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham – Dracula: The Dark Prince) and Lulu (Georgia Groome – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), but little do the boys know, their partners have other plans for the night ahead…

Below we grill director Ben Barfoot with some daring and dubious questions in our special interview Double Talk:

1.How did you get into making movies?
I was just always a bit obsessed with stories and imagery. Writing, drawing, which led to stop motion animation as a kid, which led to making movies on video and then so on and so on. Here I am now.

2. What was the best bit of making Double Date?
Actually making a movie after obsessing about doing it for most of my life. Sounds a bit obvious, but making this film was almost like a damn bursting. No one ever really gave me a chance, not even to direct a corporate. Then I was given a movie with a huge crew. Mind. Blown. Also, then doing that with Danny and Matt. Two very creative friends of mine who make me laugh. I was lucky.

3. What has been your most dreadful dating experience?
Well, most of my dating experience’s were completely out of this world amazing and I just cleaned up constantly, but I once sent some flowers to a girl for valentines day, and then a few days later told her it was me. She said “oh” and not much else. I had to then hang out with her for the rest of the evening. That was a pretty shit night. To top if off, at the end of the night, I sat on my bed feeling pretty pathetic and knocked my only lamp over. It smashed on the floor and I just sat in the darkness feeling sad and stupid. But every other time I’ve been AMAZING!

4. What is your favourite horror film and why?
I mean, it’s got to be the Exorcist, really. It’s just a knock out piece of work.

5. Who would be the worst horror character to go on a double date with?
The girl from the Exorcist. Head spinning around, ranting about shagging my mum, puking over me, that’s got to be a tough night. Plus she’s about eight. I’d get some pretty dodgy looks for that alone.

6. What’s next for you?
I’ve got another one with Danny which we’ve written together and is starting to go out to cast. We’ll see. A sort of dark comedy, political satire, high octane, road movie. Sound fun?

Double Date is out on Blu-ray, DVD and digital from 9 September.
