‘No One Will Hear Your Scream’ Puts a Killer Twist on the 1990 World Cup

As millions of football fans fixate on the drama of the 1990 World Cup, a killer stalks the streets unnoticed in No One Will Hear Your Scream, a retro-inspired slasher that blends sporting obsession, mixtape culture and serial murder into what is being billed as Argentina’s first full-blooded slasher film.

Now streaming on Tubi and available on Blu-ray and DVD, the feature arrives from writer-director Mariano Cattaneo, whose latest project pays tribute to the American slasher boom of the late 1980s and early 1990s while firmly rooting its story within Argentine culture and history.

Originally released in Argentina under the title Nadie Va a Escuchar Tu Grito, the film centres on Micaela, a young woman working in a record shop creating personalised mixtapes for customers. As Argentina’s World Cup campaign grips the nation, a series of brutal murders begins to unfold. Each killing coincides with a match, allowing the murderer to operate while the country’s attention is focused elsewhere.

Micaela’s connection to the case becomes increasingly personal when she discovers that the killer is somehow linked to one of the compilations she created and sold. As the body count rises with every game, she finds herself racing against time to identify the murderer before the tournament reaches its conclusion and she becomes the next target.

The film stars Sol Wainer, whose recent credits include A Silent Death and Perdida, alongside Byron Barbieri of The Eternaut and Germán Baudino, known to genre audiences for History of the Occult. Together, the cast anchors a story that combines mystery, suspense and coming-of-age themes against a backdrop rarely explored within the slasher genre.

For Cattaneo, the project continues a career-long fascination with horror. The filmmaker, who was born in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, has built a body of work spanning short films, novels, television and features. His previous directing credits include Dead Heart, A Grave for Three and The Strangest Girl in the World. A lifelong admirer of Edgar Allan Poe, Cattaneo has frequently drawn upon gothic and supernatural influences throughout his work.

Speaking previously about the film, the director described it as a project where football serves as a backdrop while music becomes a key emotional driver. Those influences are apparent throughout the finished feature, which places cassette culture and record-store life at the centre of the mystery.

International interest in the film emerged before release when New Zealand sales company Black Mandala acquired worldwide rights. The company positioned the feature as a key title within its genre slate, highlighting its blend of period setting, mystery elements and traditional slasher mechanics.

No One Will Hear Your Scream

No One Will Hear Your Scream embraces the energy of the VHS era while offering a distinctly South American take on a format often dominated by North American productions. From its soundtrack-driven premise to its football-fuelled suspense, the film aims to carve out a unique space within contemporary horror cinema.

For viewers seeking a slasher with a different cultural perspective, No One Will Hear Your Scream is available to stream on Tubi today!
