‘Scream Therapy’ Pits Five Friends Against a Deadly Cult

Miracle Media has brought Scream Therapy to UK digital platforms this month, introducing British audiences to Cassie Keet’s feature debut, a dark comedy horror that collides breakup recovery, desert bonding and occult violence.

Scream Therapy 2023

Written and directed by Keet, the film follows Avery, played by Harley Bronwyn, who heads into the desert with her closest friends after the collapse of a seven-year relationship. What begins as a restorative weekend built around so-called scream therapy quickly mutates into something far more dangerous when the group encounters a cult of violent men operating under pressure to complete a human sacrifice.

That set-up gives Scream Therapy a knowingly heightened framework, but the film’s appeal lies in the contrast between its absurd premise and its female-led survival story. Avery and her friends arrive looking for release, solidarity and a way to push through emotional wreckage. Instead, they find themselves facing a threat that is both ridiculous and lethal, forcing the weekend into a struggle for survival.

Bronwyn leads the cast as Avery, with Claire Dellamar and Mandie Cheung among the core group at the centre of the film’s escalating chaos. As the situation spirals, the balance shifts from therapeutic retreat to violent retaliation, with the women forced to respond to a cult that has badly misjudged its targets. The result is a horror comedy that leans into its premise while keeping its focus on friendship, rage and survival.

Keet previously drew attention with Abigail Before Beatrice, and Scream Therapy marks a move into a broader, more overtly comic register. The film premiered in the United States in 2023 and has now made its way to the UK through Miracle Media, arriving on digital platforms on 6 April. Its release places it in front of home audiences at a moment when horror comedy continues to prove one of the genre’s most durable and flexible forms.

Scream Therapy is now available on UK digital platforms via Miracle Media.
