Chainsaw Carnage and More on Arrow Video in August

Arrow Video’s August line-up turns up the heat with six distinct genre restorations landing on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. The month kicks off with the brutal origins of a horror icon in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning before moving through the dusty final stand of a Hollywood legend in The Shootist, high-octane gang warfare in Enemy Territory, James Caan’s debut triumph Thief, Jennifer Reeder’s twisted coming-of-age shocker Perpetrator, and Wolfgang Petersen’s epic disaster thriller Poseidon.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning Arrow Video

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning arrives on 25 August in Limited Edition 4K UHD, unearthing the Hewitt clan’s backstory in both its theatrical cut and an extended Uncut Version for the first time on 4K disc. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes prequel recreates the grotesque birth of Leatherface and his kin in lurid fashion. A reversible sleeve, poster and collector’s booklet complete this collector’s package.

Fans of classic westerns can welcome The Shootist to Blu-ray on 18 August. Directed by Don Siegel and starring John Wayne in his screen farewell, the film adapts Glendon Swarthout’s novel into a elegiac tale of a dying gunslinger choosing his final duel. Wayne shares the screen with James Stewart, Lauren Bacall and a young Ron Howard, giving the film its weight and emotional resonance. This edition includes new cover art, a slipcase and an illustrated booklet.

Enemy Territory Arrow Video

Action-thriller fans should seek out Enemy Territory on 4 August. Peter Manoogian’s 1987 cult favourite, long unavailable on high definition, is back after a fresh restoration. Gary Frank, Ray Parker Jr. and Stacey Dash navigate a gang-controlled apartment block with help from a disabled Vietnam veteran played by Jan-Michael Vincent. A director commentary, reversible sleeve and foldout poster pack extra punch into this Limited Edition Blu-ray.

Michael Mann’s Thief arrives on 25 August in a Limited Edition 4K UHD Director’s Cut, approved by Mann himself, alongside the original theatrical version on Blu-ray. James Caan stars as a professional burglar yearning for a normal life, only to find loyalty and danger entwined in Chicago’s underworld. With a Tangerine Dream score and moody cinematography, this release honours the film’s neo-noir pedigree.

Perpertrator Arrow Video

Jennifer Reeder’s Perpetrator lands on 18 August in Limited Edition Blu-ray. A hallucinatory thriller starring Kiah McKirnan, the film blends feminist coming-of-age themes with supernatural horror. Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Lowell support McKirnan’s portrayal of a teenager caught in a deadly rite of passage. Extras include a new director commentary and three Reeder short films.

Rounding out the month on 11 August is Wolfgang Petersen’s Poseidon, now in stunning 4K UHD. This 2006 remake of Paul Gallico’s disaster classic plunges passengers into chaos after a rogue wave capsizes their cruise ship. Kurt Russell, Richard Dreyfuss and Emmy Rossum lead a cast battling to escape the sinking liner. A reversible sleeve and booklet make this release a must for disaster movie collectors.
