‘ZombieCON Vol.1’ Turns LA Into Cosplay Carnage
Four friends decked out in elaborate costumes spark mayhem when they accidentally unleash a zombie outbreak in ZombieCON Vol.1, the irreverent horror-comedy that arrives on demand 15 July. Blending anime-style fights, razor-sharp satire and buckets of blood, the film follows a quartet of cosplay devotees as they slash through a zombified Los Angeles to rescue their beloved “Mama Bear.”

Directed by Kyle Valle and co-written by Valle alongside stars Manny Luke and Erin Áine, ZombieCON Vol.1 turns fan convention fever into an all-out apocalypse. The story begins when these four best friends inadvertently trigger a virus that reanimates only the worst of humanity. Wielding collectible katanas and clad in homemade armour, they race across LA’s backstreets, comic-book heroes brought to life, to save their kidnapped compatriot.
Luke and Áine headline a cast that also features Christian Casillas as the deadpan strategist, Carlo Mendez in a scene-stealing cameo, and Punkie Johnson delivering laughs as a runaway reporter. Nichole McAuley and Melissa Jane Rodriguez round out the party, portraying survivors whose survival hinges on teaming up with the costumed quartet. The performances balance goofy charm and genuine grit, turning every alleyway encounter into a showcase for practical gore effects and athletic choreography.

Clocking in at 110 minutes, ZombieCON Vol.1 is a fast-paced thrill ride that honours the spirit of fan culture. While the film revels in its outlandish premise, it also delivers pointed commentary on social acceptance and creativity, portraying cosplay as a superpower against the undead, and the closed-minded. The result is a love letter to committed fandom that never forgets its commitment to carnage.
Level 33 Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based outfit behind the release, has prepared a robust on-demand rollout. The film will be available across all major digital platforms, giving horror hounds plenty of time to gear up for what promises to be the summer’s most playful shocker. The distributor’s track record for championing diverse, independent voices makes it a fitting home for this genre mash-up.

Early reactions to the trailer praised its inventiveness, calling it “a cult-classic in the making.” With its blend of zombie thrills, comic-book flair and heartfelt homage to fan creativity, ZombieCON Vol.1 aims to seize the moment – and maybe spark a few new conventions of its own. Whether viewers are cosplay veterans or casual horror fans, they’ll find something to cheer as heroes rise and the undead fall.
