‘The Zombie Wedding’ Brings Undead Romance to VOD and Select Cinemas

Freestyle Digital Media is gearing up to release the horror-comedy The Zombie Wedding, a unique blend of romance and the undead. Set to debut on Cable and Digital VOD platforms including Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and more on 13th September 2024, the film will also play in select theatres across the US. It’s the first feature film from Weekly World News Studios, launching their IP-driven slate of movie projects.

The Zombie Wedding 2023

The concept of The Zombie Wedding is as quirky as it sounds: a young New Jersey couple chooses to go ahead with their nuptials amidst a full-blown zombie apocalypse. What makes the story even more unconventional? The groom is already a zombie, while the bride is still human. As the day approaches, tensions rise not just between the undead and the living, but also between their two vastly different families.

Adapted from an interactive play of the same name, The Zombie Wedding promises a mix of satire and slapstick horror, with the walking dead adding a unique twist to the concept of “till death do us part.” However, it’s not just the ghoulish groom causing trouble; the wedding’s real challenges come from the living, particularly the judgmental humans whose prejudices against the undead put a strain on the special day. Chaos truly ensues when the zombies at the event start feeling hungry—hungry for brains, that is.

The film boasts an ensemble cast filled with familiar faces. Cheri Oteri (Saturday Night Live), Seth Gilliam (The Walking Dead), Heather Matarazzo (Scream), Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie), Siobhan Fallon Hogan (Men in Black), and Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos) all lend their talents to this gory, romantic adventure. Micky Dolenz of The Monkees also makes a memorable appearance, adding to the film’s offbeat humour.

The Zombie Wedding 2023

Directed by Micah Khan and written by Greg D’Alessandro, the film brings a playful sense of doom, mixing undead hilarity with romcom sensibilities. Khan’s direction ensures the film remains lighthearted while navigating the absurdity of a wedding where half the guests might eat the other half.

As the first project from Weekly World News Studios, The Zombie Wedding marks the beginning of what the team hopes will be a series of films inspired by their zany tabloid stories. Produced by a creative team that includes D’Alessandro, Joe Corcoran, Sue Wolf, and Jeff Mazzola, the film is poised to attract both horror fans and lovers of quirky romantic comedies.

Catch The Zombie Wedding on 13th September—just in time for some early Halloween fun. Whether on VOD or in select theatres, it promises to be one unforgettable walk down the aisle.
