LEGEND Goes Full Throttle with April’s Explosive Slate
This April, LEGEND is digging deep into the vault of genre-defining cinema with a line-up of channel premieres guaranteed to thrill, provoke and entertain. The network’s spring slate reads like a who’s who of cult filmmakers and action greats, with titles from John Carpenter, Paul Verhoeven, Michael Winner and Neil Marshall all making their LEGEND debut.

The chaos kicks off on 5th April with Carpenter’s Escape from New York – a dystopian thriller that still bristles with energy more than four decades on. Kurt Russell’s eye-patched anti-hero Snake Plissken remains one of the most iconic figures in genre cinema, and his high-stakes rescue mission across a walled-off Manhattan prison is the perfect way to launch the channel’s month-long celebration of cinematic mayhem.
The channel also brings Michael Winner’s controversial revenge classic Death Wish (18th April) into the spotlight, marking its first appearance on LEGEND. Charles Bronson’s transformation from mild-mannered architect to urban vigilante may be deeply unsettling, but it remains a cornerstone of the vigilante thriller genre.

Meanwhile, Neil Marshall’s Centurion (19th April), a visceral historical survival tale set in Roman Britain, gets its due with a primetime Saturday night slot. Featuring intense performances from Michael Fassbender and Dominic West, this brutal and stylish action film delivers Marshall’s signature blend of historical grit and genre flair.

Also joining the line-up is Basic Instinct (26th April), Paul Verhoeven’s erotic thriller that turned Sharon Stone into a household name and still pulses with controversy. Its inclusion brings a welcome psychological edge to a slate packed with bullets, blades, and bloodshed.

Not all the action lives in the shadows, however. LEGEND is also offering up an array of matinee premieres for classic film lovers, with highlights including the 1976 remake of King Kong, starring a young Jessica Lange, and the swashbuckling Treasure Island (1972), which features a memorable turn from Orson Welles as Long John Silver. Fans of Oliver Reed can catch him in The Scarlet Blade on 23rd April, in one of his most underrated early performances.
Elsewhere, genre-hopping is the name of the game. Wesley Snipes takes a leap into Drop Zone (12th April), a skydive-fuelled thriller from John Badham, while Danny Dyer dials up the intensity in the revenge-led Vendetta (11th April). For those drawn to the dusty tension of classic Westerns, both Arizona Bushwackers and Apache Rising provide a retro-flavoured escape to the wild frontier.

With something for almost every taste, be it action, horror, suspense, erotica, and adventure, LEGEND’s April line-up is more than just nostalgic. It’s a reminder of how potent, provocative and thrilling these films still are. Whether you’re revisiting old favourites or discovering cult gems for the first time, this month’s programming reaffirms LEGEND’s place as a vital home for genre cinema on the small screen.
