Second Sight Revives ‘The Coffee Table’ – The Horror You Can’t Unsee
Caye Casas’ deeply unsettling horror The Coffee Table (La mesita del comedor) is receiving the deluxe treatment from Second Sight Films, with a Limited Edition Blu-ray release set for 28th April 2025. The Spanish psychological horror, notorious for its gut-punch storytelling and relentless descent into despair, arrives with a host of new extras, including an exclusive audio commentary, fresh interviews with the cast and director, and two of Casas’ earlier short films.

Originally released to stunned audiences, The Coffee Table has been hailed as one of the most distressing horror films in recent memory, with El Mundo branding it “horror film of the year” and Projected Figures calling it a “genre-leaping marvel” that twists from dark comedy into pure tragedy. Casas, known for Killing God, co-wrote the script with Cristina Borobia (RIP), crafting a story that plays with tension and absurdity before plunging into unbearable dread.

The film follows Jesús (David Pareja, Amigo) and María (Estefanía de los Santos, Jaulas), a couple grappling with the pressures of parenthood after the recent birth of their child. As their frustrations mount, a seemingly trivial shopping trip spirals into an unfathomable nightmare. What starts as a petty argument over which coffee table to buy transforms into an unrelenting, catastrophic event that shatters their world.
Co-starring Josep Maria Riera, Claudia Riera, and Eduardo Antuña, the film delivers an excruciatingly tense viewing experience, combining black comedy with psychological torment in a way that leaves audiences both horrified and unable to look away.

The new Limited Edition release comes in a rigid slipcase featuring artwork by Luke Headland and includes a 120-page book with newly commissioned essays. A Standard Edition Blu-ray will also be available for those looking to experience The Coffee Table without the collector’s extras.
For those who crave films that refuse to offer comfort or easy resolutions, The Coffee Table remains an unmissable, and unforgettable, entry into the genre. You can pre-order it here: bit.ly/CoffeeTableLtd
