Unholy Fears Rise in ‘The Baby in the Basket’
Get ready to be transported to a storm-ravaged, remote Scottish island in The Baby in the Basket, the upcoming gothic horror from Shepka Productions in partnership with Flickering Myth. This atmospheric chiller, set to release on Digital platforms in the UK and USA, and on DVD in the UK from 17 February, and looks to offer a fresh twist to the genre with its blend of supernatural terror and psychological unease.

Set in 1944 against the backdrop of World War Two, the film begins with a mysterious delivery to the convent of St. Augustine’s—a baby left in a basket during a tumultuous storm. The nuns take the child in, intending to ferry him to the mainland once the weather clears. But as night falls, unsettling events plague the sisters, leading Sister Agnes (Amber Doig-Thorne, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey) to suspect the child might be something far darker than innocent. Her fears are dismissed as hysteria brought on by the isolation of the island, but as strange occurrences mount, the line between faith and fear begins to blur.

Directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane, The Baby in the Basket boasts a cast of familiar horror talents, including Michaela Longden (How to Kill Monsters), Elle O’Hara (Cara), and Lisa Riesner (No Dogs Allowed). Veteran actors Annabelle Lanyon (Legend), Maryam d’Abo (The Living Daylights), and Paul Barber (The Full Monty) lend additional gravitas to this gripping tale.

The script, penned by Tom Jolliffe (Cinderella’s Revenge, Renegades), takes full advantage of its atmospheric setting, weaving themes of paranoia, faith, and the unknown. The storm-lashed convent becomes a character in its own right, amplifying the tension as the sisters question not only their beliefs but also their sanity.
If you’re intrigued about The Baby in the Basket you can pre-order the DVD now from Amazon or HMV, and ensure you don’t miss out on this new release on 17 February.
