‘The Baby in the Basket’ Joins Shudder’s July Horror Line-Up

Independent British gothic horror The Baby in the Basket is set to reach an even wider audience this month after securing a streaming home on Shudder, joining the platform’s July line-up of horror favourites and contemporary genre releases.

The film, produced by Shepka Productions and Flickering Myth, will premiere on the specialist streaming service in the United States on 20 July, continuing an impressive international journey that has already seen it secure distribution across more than 15 territories since its debut in 2025.

Written by Tom Jolliffe and co-directed by Andy Crane and Nathan Shepka, The Baby in the Basket embraces the atmosphere of classic British gothic cinema while placing its story within the isolation of wartime Scotland. Set during the Second World War, the film follows a secluded convent on a remote island where the arrival of an abandoned infant during a violent storm begins a terrifying chain of events that tests both faith and sanity.

Amber Doig-Thorne, known to horror audiences for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, leads the cast as Sister Agnes, a nun who becomes convinced the mysterious child has sinister origins. She is joined by Michaela Longden, Elle O’Hara, Lisa Riesner, Nathan Shepka, Paul Barber, Annabelle Lanyon and former Bond star Maryam d’Abo, who portrays the convent’s Mother Superior.

As increasingly disturbing events grip the isolated monastery, divisions emerge among the sisters, with unexplained visions, desecrated religious symbols and violent behaviour forcing them to question whether the child is truly innocent or the source of an ancient evil.

The Shudder acquisition marks another milestone for the ongoing collaboration between Flickering Myth and Shepka Productions. The Baby in the Basket was the first completed feature to emerge from the partnership, which was established to develop commercially focused independent genre films for worldwide audiences.

Since then, the slate has continued to expand. Suspense thriller Death Among the Pines is currently streaming on Tubi ahead of its UK release in September, while work is also progressing on Robert Returns, a new chapter in the long-running Robert the Doll franchise, which is scheduled to arrive through 4Digital Media in early 2027. Further projects from the partnership are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Filmed during autumn 2023, The Baby in the Basket first reached audiences with a theatrical release in the Philippines before arriving on Digital and DVD in the UK and US earlier this year. Its arrival on Shudder represents another significant step for the independently produced horror, introducing the film to one of the genre’s most dedicated streaming audiences.

The Baby in the Basket begins streaming on Shudder in the United States from 20 July 2026.
