Zombie Comedy ‘As We Know It’ Promises Laughter Amidst Chaos

In a world gripped by a zombie apocalypse, where chaos reigns, one independent film is set to offer a unique blend of comedy, horror, and romance. As We Know It, directed by Josh Monkarsh, takes us back to the late 1990s in Los Angeles, where a struggling writer, James Bishop, finds himself navigating the ups and downs of a messy breakup while facing an impending apocalypse.
The film’s quirky plot unfolds as James, portrayed by the talented Mike Castle (Brews Brothers), struggles with writer’s block in his Hollywood Hills home, trying to complete his latest book amidst the chaos. His eccentric best friend, Bruce, played by Oliver Cooper (Project X), shows up with alarming news: Los Angeles is in turmoil due to a bizarre zombie outbreak, caused by tainted soy milk.
With the city overrun by the undead, James, Bruce, and James’s ex-girlfriend, Emily, played by Taylor Blackwell (Designated Survivor), come together to barricade themselves in the house. This unlikely trio is forced to confront their personal struggles while rekindling lost love and, of course, avoiding being turned into zombies. And for sustenance, they occasionally let in the only food delivery service still operating, Abracadabra.
Starring alongside this talented trio are Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) and Chris Parnell (30 Rock), adding their own unique charm to the film. TikTok sensation Danny Mondello makes his film debut, bringing a fresh perspective to the cast.

The film’s director, Josh Monkarsh, co-wrote the screenplay with Christopher Francis and Brandon DePaolo. Production of “As We Know It” began in Los Angeles in late July and is expected to wrap up in early August. The film is backed by Traffic City Productions, with Monkarsh, Daniel Cummings, and Josh Fruehling serving as producers, and K. Asher Levin as co-producer.
As We Know It promises to be a rollercoaster of laughs and unexpected twists. With the fate of humanity hanging in the balance, this group of friends must not only battle zombies but also their inner demons. The film is packed with witty dialogue, nostalgic nods to the ’90s, and a unique blend of comedy and horror that will keep audiences entertained throughout.
Pam Grier, known for her roles in ’70s action and blaxploitation films, brings her iconic presence to the film. Chris Parnell, who made a name for himself on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, adds his comedic genius. Oliver Cooper, famous for his role in Project X, continues to shine in the world of comedy and film.
As We Know It is set to offer a refreshing take on the zombie genre, proving that even in the face of an apocalypse, there’s always room for love and laughter. With its talented cast, witty writing, and unique blend of genres, this independent film is one to watch out for.
