‘Super Happy Fun Clown’ Slashes Its Way to UK Premiere at FrightFest

The time for clowning around is over. Patrick Rea’s latest horror-comedy Super Happy Fun Clown will make its UK premiere at this year’s FrightFest, screening on Sunday 24 August at 4pm in Odeon LUXE West End’s Discovery Screen One. The film arrives with an early wave of anticipation, following strong notices from its Panic Fest bow and a reputation for blending sharp comedic beats with unflinching slasher violence.

Jennifer Seward stars as Jennifer Sullivan, a once-celebrated child prodigy now working a dead-end job, trapped in a loveless marriage and berated by her mother. Her only escape is donning greasepaint as “Jenn-O the Clown” for local park events, but as her personal life unravels, Jennifer adopts a new philosophy – that infamy can be a form of immortality. Drawing inspiration from movie monsters and notorious real-world killers, she embarks on a Halloween killing spree that forces detectives Marshall and Barnes into a race to stop the carnage.

The cast also includes Nicole Hall, Matt Leisy and Deborah Madick, with Seward’s performance already singled out for its combination of raw emotion and gleeful menace. The film is written and produced by Eric Winkler, whose previous collaboration with Rea, I Am Lisa, became a cult favourite for its female-driven twist on the werewolf myth.

Rea, a familiar name to FrightFest audiences after screenings of They Wait in the Dark and Arbor Demon, has built a career on genre work that balances human drama with inventive set pieces. Super Happy Fun Clown continues this approach, wrapping its psychological core in an increasingly unhinged spectacle.

Last month it was announced that The Horror Collective, Entertainment Squad’s genre label, had acquired worldwide rights to the film. The deal will see Super Happy Fun Clown embark on an international festival run after FrightFest, ahead of a planned North American release later this year. The label’s recent slate includes Slaxx, Summoning Sylvia and The Death of Snow White.

The film is poised to be one of the festival’s crowd-pleasers, citing its blend of absurdity and brutality as a natural fit for the event. Audiences in London will be among the first in the UK to meet Jenn-O – and decide for themselves whether she is a monster to fear, pity or both.
