Neve Campbell Confirms Sidney Prescott Will Return for ‘Scream 8’
It’s official… Sidney Prescott is not finished with Ghostface yet. Neve Campbell has confirmed that she will return for Scream 8, extending a relationship with the franchise that began 30 years ago when she first stepped into Woodsboro as the resourceful teenager at the centre of Wes Craven’s original Scream.

Campbell confirmed her involvement while in London promoting the second season of Black Doves. Asked by the Associated Press what she could reveal about the next instalment, the actor kept things characteristically brief.
“I’ll be in it,” Campbell said.
The appearance will mark Campbell’s seventh outing as Sidney Prescott, following her return to the franchise in Scream 7 earlier this year. That film placed Sidney back at the centre of the story, this time as a mother whose daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May, becomes the target of a new Ghostface threat.

Campbell has also revealed that she is already giving notes on the screenplay for Scream 8, suggesting that her involvement may extend beyond simply returning in front of the camera.
The sequel is being written by sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, whose previous work includes the first season of Peacock mystery series Poker Face. Kevin Williamson, creator and original screenwriter of the franchise, is expected to produce after directing Scream 7.
A director has not yet been announced, and Paramount and Spyglass have yet to set a release date or reveal the wider cast.
Campbell’s return follows an especially complicated period in her relationship with the series. She sat out Scream VI after publicly stating that she did not feel the salary offered reflected the value she had brought to the franchise. At the time, Campbell believed her tenure as Sidney might be over.
That changed in 2024 when she agreed to return for Scream 7, with Williamson taking the director’s chair for the first time in the series.

The seventh film went on to become the biggest commercial success in Scream history, opening to approximately $97 million worldwide before passing $200 million globally. Its performance quickly pushed an eighth film into development.
Williamson has also previously revealed that Campbell had ideas about where Sidney’s story could go next, recalling a late-night conversation during production on Scream 7 in which she pitched a concept that gained support from those involved.
The next film remains in the early stages, but Campbell’s confirmation means one major piece is now firmly in place.
Scream 8 is currently in development, with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott. A director, production start date and theatrical release date are still to be announced. We’ll obviously share more exciting news about the project as it comes!
