The supernatural saga of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches continues this summer, as the BBC-aired gothic drama prepares to launch its second season on Blu-ray, DVD and digital from 25 August. Acorn Media International will also release a combined Seasons 1 & 2 box set, offering viewers the chance to revisit or discover the full adaptation of Rice’s acclaimed trilogy.
Drawing from the second book in Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches series, the latest chapter reunites Alexandra Daddario as Rowan, alongside Tongayi Chirisa, Harry Hamlin and Jack Huston. New additions to the cast include Ben Feldman and Alyssa Jirrels, introducing fresh dynamics to the New Orleans-set tale.
Season two finds Rowan grappling with the complexities of motherhood after giving birth to Lasher, the human embodiment of a demonic entity long tied to the Mayfair lineage. Lasher’s rapid physical and emotional development accelerates him through adolescence to adulthood, his growing autonomy destabilising both Rowan’s life and the fate of the family. As her powers evolve, Rowan must weigh their intoxicating benefits against the danger they pose to those closest to her, particularly as Lasher’s ambitions spiral beyond her control.
The first season introduced Rowan Fielding as a talented neurosurgeon whose discovery of her supernatural heritage forces her into the orbit of a centuries-old coven. Torn between the world she knows and the lure of power, Rowan’s early journey explored the perils and seductions of her inheritance, with New Orleans’ rich gothic atmosphere serving as a backdrop for the Mayfair legacy and its dark patron.
With a third season already in development, the August home entertainment release offers fans an opportunity to catch up in full. Special features include “Episode Insiders”, behind-the-scenes material in “Show Me More”, and a panel appearance from Comic-Con 2024, providing insight from cast and creators.
Both Blu-ray and DVD editions will be available in two-disc season sets or a four-disc box set containing both seasons. Digital episodes from season two are already available to download and keep weekly, following their BBC broadcast.
