Five FrightFest Facts From Edoardo Vitaletti director of The Last Thing Mary Saw

2021 has been a strange year and although things may not have completely returned to normality one thing to be thankful for is the return of the Arrow Video FrightFest which takes place for real this year at Cineworld, Leicester Square in central London.

The annual five-day four-screen 50+ film extravaganza runs between 26th and 30th August and after a year online, it is wonderful to have FrightFest back with a hybrid event featuring in-cinema and online components bringing audiences a whole host of truly terrifying and terrific horror films.

Below we feature one of those monstrously amazing movies with our regular exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From and these five are from Edoardo Vitaletti director of The Last Thing Mary Saw:

1. Tell us about your film?
The Last Thing Mary Saw is a horror-drama based in 1843 rural New York. Young Mary (Stefanie Scott), who was raised in a repressively religious household, is now under investigation after the mysterious death of her family’s matriarch (Judith Roberts). Her recollection of the events sheds light on her forbidden relationship with Eleanor (Isabelle Fuhrman), the home’s maid, and how the arrival of an enigmatic stranger (Rory Culkin) further complicates their attempt at being together.
It’s a dark tale of impossible love, about what it takes to be free in a world that’s been written out for you.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
I think of myself as a generally “scared” person, more than I tend to show. Making horror movies became the best way to explore the things that unnerve me, and most importantly why they do so. Telling a story through fear, anxiety, or even morbid curiosity is a unique angle.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Cronenberg retrospectives should happen more often. I would love a Videodrome screening and q&a/body horror masterclass.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Best Food Scene. I love unappetizing dinner scenes. It’s a fearful experience for all the senses.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
Because I dealt with a speech impediment for a long time, I would call it SAY IT! starring Barry Keoghan. He is one of my favorites right now.

The Last Thing Mary Saw plays SATURDAY 28TH AUGUST 2021- 1.00 & 1.25 PM Find our more and book your tickets HERE
