Grimmfest returns this Easter to but a spring in every horror fans step with five nights of fantastic films. Especially or the event we created a brand new interview feature entitled Grim Tidings which will give you the low down on some of the amazing movies they are showing.

Easter is traditionally a time for rebirth, renewal, resurrection. But as the Pandemic continues to rage, and the world remains on lockdown for the foreseeable future, it is also a time for rethinking. Thus, while the Grimmfest team had hoped to be hosting a ‘live’ Easter event, the Grimmfest Easter Edition will now be taking place online and will build on the success of the Grimmfest 2020 online experience.

Originally set for eight feature films over four nights, the event has drawn so much interest from film makers and distributors alike, that they decided to expand the scope to incorporate six more feature films, turning their Easter Horror Nights into a full on festival in its own right!

Grimmfest’s first Easter Edition kicks off on the evening of Thur April 1st, 2021 with our preview night, and then continues across the evenings of 2-5 April, with a series of feature film premiere double bills with supporting shorts and Q&As with the cast & crew of each feature. In addition, there’ll be an exclusive pass holder double bill and an ARROW double bill both of which can be accessed any time across the weekend.

Below we get some Grim Tidings from Lluís Danés director of The Barcelona Vampiress

1. Tell us why you are at Grimmfest?
The invitation for The Barcelona Vampiress at Grimmfest came through the co-producer and sales agent, and I’m very happy to have the chance to participate in a horror film festival abroad. Although our film is quite hard to position, our original bet and challenge was to play with and fit in a variety of genres and thrill a wide range of audiences. Thus, we felt very proud when our beloved horror film festival at home, Sitges Film Festival, awarded The Barcelona Vampiress with the Grand Audience Award, and it’s today an honor to have the chance to be part or Grimmfest in its 2021 edition.

2. How did you get into horror?
I got into this horror genre universe at a very young age. As a kid, I was fascinated by tales and stories, and if they could be scary or disturbing, much better. Now it’s me who tells stories, so I love arousing terror and restlessness among the viewers.

3. What scares you the most?
What scares me the most are the actual monsters of real life. Not the fairy tales ones, these are endearing and even funny, they makey you feel tenderness. Real monsters like are in power positions and they can cause innocent people to go to jail, and they make people around the world to be unjustly tortured at police stations. These monsters are far worse than Frankenstein or Dracula.

4. Who or what is your favourite horror character?
In this sense I consider myself a very traditional person, surely Frankenstein’s monster is my favorite character since it awakens empathy and tenderness in me.

5. What is the grimmest thing you ever saw?
Unfortunately, the most terrifying thing I’ve seen didn’t happen in a movie but in the news. I wish fiction was scarier, but these days horror is very present and visible in real life.
