She Came From The Woods (2022) Review

As the summer draws to a close, camp counsellors are letting loose on their final evening before saying goodbye for another year. Relaxing around the campfire, the group share stories of the legends surrounding the camp, when Peter (Spencer List) suggests partaking in a blood ritual to mark the occasion.
Despite the protestations of his girlfriend Lauren (Clare Foley) and the ominous warnings from his family who run the site, the group prick their fingers with needles and call on the spirit of nurse Agatha who is told to have brought terror to the camp many summers ago.
Whilst the notion of summer camp isn’t really a thing in the UK, Director Erik Bloomquist immediately envelops you within the world of Camp Briarbrook with the fun throwback soundtrack that is a nice contrast to the gore that comes thick and fast as the film develops.
She Came From The Woods plays out pretty much as expected, with plenty of splatter and over the top kill scenes.
Though there isn’t a lot of new ground, the strong cast help to pull the feature along its familiar path. Proving she has 80’s mother down to a (crisp, white counsellor) T, Cara Buono (Stranger Things) delivers a stand out portrayal with William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, VFW) serving as the grandfather and camp founder.

Whilst it’s very much your typical All-American slasher feature, the unexpectedly creepy antagonist and ensemble cast of hilariously terrifying children manage to give the film an injection of something that feels a little bit new.
