‘The Demon Detective’ Brings Demonic Mystery and Horror Icons to UK Digital
A Catholic outcast, a demonic possession and a childhood that refuses to stay buried provide the case file for The Demon Detective, T.C. De Witt’s supernatural mystery horror which has now arrived on UK digital. Mixing occult investigation with the mechanics of a supernatural detective story, the film pairs Dustyn Gulledge and Eugene Young with a supporting cast that includes genre veterans Doug Jones and Adrienne Barbeau, as well as Vivica A. Fox and Tom Virtue.

Released in the UK by Miracle Media on 17 August, The Demon Detective centres on Miles Mako, played by Gulledge, a supernatural exorcist for hire whose relationship with the Catholic faith has left him firmly on the outside. Rather than abandon the spiritual world altogether, Miles has turned it into his profession, banishing ghosts, spectres and other unwanted entities with the assistance of his right-hand man Pin, played by Young.
The latest job arrives through Clara, whose encounter with an apparent demonic presence brings Miles into another investigation. This one, however, starts to look uncomfortably familiar. As he examines the case and a series of recent incidents, Miles discovers possible connections to events from his own childhood and the trauma he has spent years attempting to leave behind.

The premise places De Witt’s film in the territory occupied by supernatural sleuth stories such as Hellboy and Constantine, with the Harry Dresden books also cited as a reference point. There is a slightly old-fashioned pleasure in the idea of someone simply being available to call when the problem in your house turns out to be infernal rather than structural. Whether Miles is quite the man you would want answering that call is another matter.
Gulledge, whose credits include Silicon Valley, leads alongside Young, who appeared in Squid Game. Jones brings extensive genre credentials following performances in Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and The Shape of Water, while Barbeau’s horror career stretches back through John Carpenter’s The Fog. Fox is known for films including Independence Day and Kill Bill Vol. 1, with Virtue’s credits including Green Book and Even Stevens.

De Witt writes and directs the film. His recent credits also include Blade: Heart of Darkness and Star Trek: Legacies, while he co-hosts screenwriting podcast The Studio Demands It!. His screenplay Unclean also appeared on the December 2025 Black List.
The Demon Detective is available now on UK digital platforms from Miracle Media, following its release on 17 August 2026.
