‘Obsession’ Lands on 4K After Becoming Horror’s Surprise Box Office Sensation

After turning a seemingly simple wish into one of the year’s most unexpected horror success stories, Curry Barker’s Obsession is heading home. The psychological thriller, which went from a buzzy festival discovery to a box office phenomenon, is now available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD in the UK from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment in partnership with Spirit Entertainment.

Written and directed by Barker, Obsession follows a hopeless romantic who breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow” in the hope of winning over his crush, only to discover that getting exactly what he wants comes with increasingly disturbing consequences.

Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette lead the film alongside Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter, with Jason Blum serving as an executive producer. Barker also edited the film, while James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri and Roman Viaris produced.

The film’s journey has been as remarkable as its premise. Obsession premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, where Focus Features entered negotiations for worldwide distribution rights, excluding France, New Zealand and Russia, in a reported $14 million to $15 million deal.

Following its US theatrical release in May, the film developed unusually strong momentum rather than experiencing the typical week-on-week decline. Its second weekend increased on its opening frame, followed by another rise in its third, making it the first wide release outside the Christmas period since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to improve its box office earnings across three consecutive weekends.

The run eventually pushed Obsession past $500 million worldwide, while also making it Focus Features’ highest-grossing release and surpassing The Blair Witch Project as the biggest-grossing festival acquisition title of all time.

The home entertainment edition includes Obsession Unleashed, a behind-the-scenes feature taking viewers through the production with Barker and cast members Johnston, Navarrette, Tomlinson and Lawless. The extra also includes footage from Johnston and Navarrette’s chemistry test and discussion of several of the film’s key scenes.

A feature commentary with Barker is also included, offering another look at how the low-budget production evolved into one of 2026’s biggest original horror hits.

The physical release arrives after a theatrical run driven heavily by younger audiences and word of mouth, which helped the film continue climbing even as major studio releases opened around it.

Obsession is available now on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD in the UK from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Spirit Entertainment.
