‘Blood Secret’ Sees Cameron Francis Return to FrightFest

A late-night visit between friends begins to fracture under the weight of buried secrets in Blood Secret, Cameron Francis’ new single-location horror feature. The film will receive its world premiere at Tubi FrightFest this August, bringing the director back to the festival one year after Cover screened in London.

Katherine Lozon leads the cast as a woman visiting her closest friend when a series of apparently supernatural incidents begins to unsettle the evening. As the disturbances escalate, she starts to question what is happening around her, who she can trust and whether her own perception can still be relied upon. By the time the night takes its darker turn, survival has become a more immediate concern than finding a rational explanation.

Tiana Akers, Garin Jones and Cory Stark also star in the 81-minute feature, which was written and directed by Francis. The film has been designed around a contained setting, with the limited physical space used to place greater emphasis on the characters’ uncertainty and deteriorating state of mind.

According to the festival’s programme notes, Blood Secret takes visual inspiration from the widescreen compositions associated with John Carpenter, despite unfolding largely within one location. That contrast between expansive framing and confined surroundings gives the production an unusual visual starting point. Or at least it does on paper. The full effect will become clearer when the film reaches an audience for the first time.

The project marks Francis’ second feature as a director following Cover, a thriller that played FrightFest, Panic Fest and the San Francisco Another Hole in the Head Film Festival, where it received the audience award for Best Thriller. The film was subsequently acquired by The Horror Collective and released on the BloodStream platform.

Francis began directing in 2020 after more than three decades working as a professional actor. His screen credits include Kevin Smith’s Killroy Was Here, the television drama George & Tammy and the feature Frank vs. God. Before moving into full-length filmmaking, he wrote and directed a series of short comedies and horror projects, often handling several production roles himself.

Jones previously appeared in Cover and Francis’ short Zoomeeting, while Akers’ credits include Stories of the Paranormal and Pumpkin. Their involvement gives the film a mixture of returning collaborators and newer faces, which fits the working model Francis has developed through his Orlando-based company MoCam Productions.
