Weird Worcester 2 Welcomes Horror and Action Legends to the UK

One year after establishing itself as a destination for lovers of cult cinema, Weird Worcester is back with an expanded second edition that promises an impressive gathering of horror, exploitation, action and fantasy legends. Taking over the University of Worcester Arena on 18 and 19 July, Weird Worcester 2 is assembling an international line-up that spans everything from Italian genre classics to Hollywood action favourites, giving fans the chance to meet the stars behind some of cinema’s most enduring cult films.

Organised by Treasured Films, the two-day convention will once again combine celebrity guests, merchandise, artwork, screenings and photo opportunities, with this year’s programme featuring several performers making their first UK convention appearances.

Among the headline guests is Vernon Wells, whose memorable screen career includes roles in Commando, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, InnerSpace and Weird Science. Joining him for his first UK convention is Patrick Kilpatrick, recognised for performances in Death Warrant, Scanner Cop II and The Toxic Avenger.

Italian genre cinema is particularly well represented throughout the weekend. Al Cliver, appearing in the UK for the first time, joins fellow Italian screen veterans Ian McCulloch, Ottaviano Dell’Acqua, Fabio Testi, Zora Kerova and director Enzo G. Castellari. Horror fans will also have the opportunity to meet Caroline Munro, whose career includes appearances in Slaughter High, Maniac and Dracula A.D. 1972, alongside video nasty icon Camille Keaton.

Director Luigi Cozzi, known for films including Contamination, The Killer Must Kill Again and Starcrash, also makes the trip from Italy, while martial artists Abdel Qissi and Michel Qissi, remembered for frequently facing Jean-Claude Van Damme on screen, add another familiar pair of cult favourites to the guest roster.

The event extends beyond actors and filmmakers. Composer Simon Boswell, whose scores include Demons 2, Santa Sangre and Shallow Grave, will be attending alongside British actor Melvin Hayes, whose career stretches from Carry On England to The Curse of Frankenstein and The Flesh and the Fiends.

Artwork and film publishing also have a significant presence this year. Acclaimed poster artist Graham Humphreys will be meeting visitors, while filmmaker Darren Ward and Uncle Frank will be signing copies of Treasured Films’ latest box set, Gialli, Guns and Gore: The Brutal Films of Darren Ward.
