Lauren LaVera Faces Hell in ‘The Fetus’
Pregnancy has long provided fertile ground for horror cinema, but The Fetus pushes the familiar nightmare into grotesque territory. Blending body horror, black comedy and supernatural mayhem, writer and director Joe Lam’s feature debut arrives on UK digital platforms this month, bringing with it a demonic family curse, escalating carnage and a cast led by genre favourites Lauren LaVera and Bill Moseley.

Released digitally in the UK on 6 July through Miracle Media, The Fetus centres on Alessa, played by Terrifier star Lauren LaVera, whose pregnancy rapidly spirals beyond anything medical science can explain. As her condition deteriorates at an alarming pace, she and her boyfriend Chris, portrayed by Julian Curtis, discover that the unborn child is no ordinary baby, but a bloodthirsty demonic entity connected to a decades-old curse that has haunted Alessa’s family for generations.
Their search for answers forces them to seek help from Alessa’s estranged father Maddox, played by horror icon Bill Moseley, whose long career includes memorable performances in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and Repo! The Genetic Opera. What follows is an increasingly chaotic descent into supernatural violence as the family confronts the horrifying consequences of a wartime pact that should never have been made.
Written and directed by Joe Lam, the film marks his first narrative feature after establishing himself as an award-winning producer and filmmaker through his company Shining Light Pictures. Lam has previously worked across documentaries, short films and music videos, earning recognition for projects including Project TRIUMPH, Our Story and the documentary The Hospital Cure: Transforming Health Care in Rural America.

Alongside LaVera and Moseley, Australian actor Julian Curtis brings extensive screen and stage experience to the production. His recent screen work includes The Tacoma Exorcism, while his theatre career spans productions with Sydney Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre and La Boite Theatre. Curtis is also an accomplished playwright and filmmaker, continuing to develop projects alongside his acting career.
The Fetus is available now on UK digital platforms through Miracle Media.
