Graham Humphreys Reveals Blood Red FrightFest 2026 Poster

The countdown to FrightFest 2026 has officially begun, with the UK’s biggest celebration of genre cinema unveiling its annual poster artwork from acclaimed illustrator Graham Humphreys. The newly revealed design embraces apocalyptic imagery, placing the festival’s familiar skeletal mascot against a vivid crimson sky as anticipation builds for this year’s Bank Holiday event in London.

Frightfest 2026

Returning for its 27th edition, FrightFest will once again take over the Odeon LUXE Leicester Square and Odeon LUXE West End from 27 to 31 August, bringing together the latest horror, thriller and fantasy films from around the world. While the festival’s full programme remains under wraps for now, organisers have confirmed that the complete line-up will be announced on 16 July at 2pm UK time.

Humphreys, whose artwork has become inseparable from the festival’s identity over more than two decades, said this year’s poster was influenced by both current events and classic horror iconography.

“The iconic monster stays the same, but turning the sky an apocalyptic blood red seems to hit the mood of the brutal heatwaves frying Europe this year, whilst making a hefty reference to a staple of horror movies and the favourite drink of all vampires,” he said.

The celebrated illustrator also reflected on the symbolism behind the latest design, adding: “In a world scammed by media manipulation and the relentless march of AI, the FrightFest mascot takes a turn at puppeteering and reminds us that when we are stripped of symbols and identities, we are all clattering bags of bones.”

Humphreys has been responsible for FrightFest’s posters and visual branding since the festival’s early years, with his distinctive artwork becoming as much a part of the annual event as the films themselves. His extensive career has included iconic poster artwork for genre classics, making him one of Britain’s most recognisable horror illustrators.

Frightfest 2026

Founded in 2000 by Paul McEvoy, Ian Rattray, Alan Jones and Greg Day, FrightFest has grown from a single London event into one of the world’s best-known genre film festivals. Alongside its flagship August Bank Holiday gathering, the organisation now stages annual events in Glasgow and London across the year, regularly showcasing horror, science fiction, fantasy, thrillers and documentaries.

The festival has also built a reputation for introducing UK audiences to future cult favourites and major international releases, while welcoming filmmakers and genre stars from across the globe. For many attendees, the unveiling of Humphreys’ latest artwork has become an annual tradition that signals the beginning of another FrightFest season. This year’s image certainly continues that tradition, even if its ominous blood-red backdrop feels especially timely.

The full FrightFest 2026 programme will be revealed at 2pm UK time on 16 July, with the festival taking place from 27 to 31 August at the Odeon LUXE Leicester Square and Odeon LUXE West End in London.
