‘Sacrificios’ UK Premiere Set For Raindance Film Festival 2026

A father’s impossible reunion with his dead son lies at the heart of Sacrificios, the Mexican horror drama set to make its UK premiere at Raindance Film Festival in a matter of days. Blending psychological horror with mythology and faith, the film arrives in London following a growing wave of international attention for director Mauricio Chernovetzky’s latest feature.

Sacrificios 2026

Screening at Vue Piccadilly on 21 and 24 June as part of the festival’s 2026 line-up, Sacrificios follows Juan, a grieving father whose life is shattered by sudden loss. Seeking solace at sea, he witnesses what appears to be a miracle when his son returns from the dead. Yet the gift comes with a terrible condition, forcing Juan into a struggle that places love, faith and sacrifice on a collision course.

Produced by Balthus Films, the 91-minute feature draws upon both Aztec mythology and Catholic imagery, grounding its supernatural story within contemporary Mexico. Shot on location in Mexico City, Tijuana and Baja California, the production also utilised caves in Iztapalapa that were once considered sacred by the Aztecs, giving the film a distinctive backdrop rooted in the country’s history and folklore.

Sacrificios was co-written by Chernovetzky and Alexander Iosjpe, with Jorge A. Jiménez leading the cast alongside Siddhartha Tonalli, Frida Astrid, Costanza Andrade, Fermín Martínez, Moises Arizmendi, Checo Rubio and Noah Hernandez.

The project received support from the Mexican Film Institute and marks another significant step for Chernovetzky, whose previous work has screened at festivals including Warsaw International Film Festival, Dances With Films and Macabro. His earlier feature Styria was acquired by Showtime following its festival run.

Sacrificios 2026

Speaking about the origins of the film, Chernovetzky described Sacrificios as a deeply personal work inspired by his father and the sacrifices parents make for their children. The filmmaker said the story grew from questions about how far a parent would be willing to go in the face of unimaginable loss. The film has already attracted strong responses from genre critics during its early festival appearances. Several reviewers have highlighted its emotional intensity and its exploration of grief through horror.

Don’t miss Sacrificios when it screens at Raindance Film Festival on 21 June at 3.30pm and again on 24 June at 10pm at Vue Piccadilly, London.
