‘Chaplain’ Unleashes Cosmic Horror Ahead of Chicago Signing Tour
Chaplain, the new graphic novel from brothers Brad Sun and Rev. Wesley Sun, is set to arrive this summer with a blend of body horror, existential dread and supernatural terror, as the creators prepare for a series of signing events across Chicago ahead of the book’s official release on 7 July.

Published by Storm King Comics as part of the John Carpenter’s Night Terrors line, the 160-page graphic novel follows an ageing hospital chaplain whose already fragile sense of certainty begins to crumble when an ancient and unknowable presence infiltrates the wards around him. Joined by a young intern, he finds himself confronting a growing nightmare that threatens not only the hospital’s patients but his own grip on reality.
The book is co-written by Brad Sun and Rev. Wesley Sun, whose personal and professional experiences helped shape the project. While Brad has spent more than a decade creating comics through the brothers’ Sun Bros Studios label, Wesley brings a unique perspective drawn from two decades working as a chaplain in hospitals, jails and homeless shelters. Today, he serves as a Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, training chaplain interns at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Chicago.
Illustrations are provided by acclaimed Spanish artist Raúlo Cáceres, whose credits include Elizabeth Bathory, Crossed, Extinction Parade and Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cindery Island. Colours come from Ryan Winn, with lettering by Marshall Dillon.
Ahead of the book’s release, the Suns will embark on a five-stop Chicago signing tour beginning on 27 June at Goblin Market Manga & Curiosities. Additional appearances include the American Library Association Conference at McCormick Place, First Aid Comics in Hyde Park, Restoried Bookshop in Albany Park and Challengers Comics + Conversation.

The tour coincides with growing anticipation for the graphic novel, which has been pitched as a surreal horror story in the tradition of The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness. Set almost entirely within the confines of a hospital, Chaplain combines supernatural horror with questions of faith, mortality and psychological endurance as its central mystery unfolds.
Storm King Comics, founded by Sandy King under the Storm King Productions banner, has spent more than a decade developing horror and science fiction titles alongside filmmaker John Carpenter. The publisher’s catalogue includes John Carpenter’s Asylum, John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight and John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction.
Chaplain will be available in comic shops from 1 July 2026 and in bookstores and online from 7 July 2026. Brad Sun and Rev. Wesley Sun’s Chicago signing tour begins on 27 June. For more information, visit: stormkingcomics.com/
