‘Evil Dead Burn’ Promises the Bloodiest Family Reunion Yet

More than four decades after Sam Raimi’s original cabin-in-the-woods nightmare introduced audiences to the Book of the Dead, the Evil Dead franchise is preparing to unleash another wave of blood-soaked chaos. This summer’s Evil Dead Burn arrives carrying the weight of a beloved horror legacy, but early footage suggests director Sébastien Vanicek has little interest in playing it safe. If anything, the latest instalment appears determined to push the series further into brutal territory.

Evil Dead Burn

Set for release on 10 July 2026, Evil Dead Burn has officially received an R rating for “strong bloody horror violence and gore, and language”, a classification that will surprise absolutely nobody familiar with the franchise’s history. From the relentless carnage of Evil Dead (2013) to the apartment block massacre of Evil Dead Rise, excessive gore has become one of the series’ defining features, and Vani?ek’s film looks set to continue that tradition.

The story centres on Alice, played by Souheila Yacoub, a grieving woman who retreats to her in-laws’ remote family home following the loss of her husband. What should be a period of healing quickly descends into horror as members of the household begin transforming into Deadites. As the demonic infestation spreads, Alice discovers that some promises made in life may continue long after death.

Yacoub leads a cast that includes Luciane Buchanan of The Night Agent, Hunter Doohan from Wednesday, Tandi Wright, George Pullar, Erroll Shand and Maude Davey. Behind the camera, Vani?ek reunites with co-writer Florent Bernard following the director’s acclaimed feature debut Infested, the French creature feature that reportedly impressed Raimi enough to bring him into the Evil Dead fold.

Recent marketing has provided a clearer picture of what audiences can expect. Alongside a Red Band trailer packed with graphic violence, a Green Band version offered an additional minute of footage focused on the fractured family dynamic at the centre of the story. The contrast was notable. While one trailer emphasised carnage, the other suggested a film rooted in grief, resentment and long-standing tensions. Then again, those themes rarely survive intact once Deadites enter the room.

One of the more intriguing discussions among fans concerns a familiar face from Evil Dead Rise. Eagle-eyed viewers have pointed to a Deadite featured briefly in the trailers who bears a striking resemblance to Jessica, the possessed woman seen in both the opening and closing sequences of Lee Cronin’s 2023 hit. Nothing has been confirmed, and it may simply be coincidence. Still, the speculation has persisted for weeks, particularly given how Evil Dead Rise deliberately left aspects of Jessica’s fate unresolved.

The film also represents the sixth entry in the overall franchise and the third standalone chapter following Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise. Producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi return, while Bruce Campbell and Lee Cronin serve as executive producers, providing a direct link to previous incarnations of the series.

Interestingly, Evil Dead Burn will not be the franchise’s only future outing. Production recently wrapped on Evil Dead Wrath, directed by Francis Galluppi, which is currently scheduled for release in 2028. For now, however, attention remains fixed on Vani?ek’s contribution, particularly after a recently released clip showed a Deadite casually consuming a flaming candle in a sequence that already feels destined to become one of the film’s most discussed moments.

Whether Evil Dead Burn ultimately connects itself to previous films or carves out its own path, it appears ready to deliver exactly what audiences expect from the series: gallons of blood, possessed terror and a family gathering that goes catastrophically wrong.

Evil Dead Burn arrives in cinemas on 10 July 2026, with previews, trailers and new footage available now ahead of its theatrical release.
